The seller just offered me half off on this Benrus. Please someone save me from myself. It's quartz (I think) and a little worn, but it looks fun and is a comfy 38mm case size.

I like this thread because it gives me something to do with eBay listings which tempt me but which I manage to resist buying.

Here's a Rado Diastar with a crazy faceted sapphire crystal, a hardened steel case, and a fully serviced ETA movement for $200: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-19...ETA-2782-SERVICED-Tungsten-Steel/254644385741

That’s one hell of a deal considering its serviced too! This would be equally stunning on a woman at 35mm, who’s got a birthday or anniversary coming?!

And I love this thread for the same reasons, I can’t buy everything that’s cool so try to share it with my friends.

Got it and for £50 bucks cheaper 😀
Lol! My first inclination was “dammit, how did I miss that!”, then I remembered that I threw it out there... thank you for sparing me from having to buy it.

Lovely black dialed Lord Elgin in GF case. Looks pretty damn original to me and those deco numerals are awesome! Another one for those with small wrists who can pull this size off.

Nice little Benrus gold filled tank- the dial is really nice on this one (only see one little Mark). Throw this on leather (or reptile) and it really be a nice watch if you have small wrists or know someone who does- hey @SportChief

I'm not really a Benrus guy myself. I try to focus my collection on Hamiltons, but I would say that Benrus is largely under appreciated in the world of vintage American watches. They were right up there with companies like Waltham, Elgin, Illinois, Bulova and probably a step below Hamilton or Gruen during the 1930s-1950s.

They actually came into there stride I think in the 60’s (that military contract money helped I’m sure) with some really great designing, and ETA movements. I’ve had/have several from that era that are impressive watches and stand up against anything from the period.

How about this for an interesting single-pusher enamel dialled 1920s/30s (?!) chronograph ? Ends in 4hrs.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1920-30s-GENTS-ENAMEL-DIAL-ONE-BUTTON-CHRONOGRAPH-NEAR-MINT-ORIGINAL-CONDITION/133460046771?hash=item1f12d6b3b3:g:d8IAAOSwUy9fBbng&LH_ItemCondition=3000

Lovely spirally tachymeter and Breguet numerals. At 41mm, this must have been enormous in it's day. I can't believe 1920s.
Any thoughts on this one?

Probably a pocket watch originally?

I wondered that... with the lugs welded on? That's a big job isn't it?

You can find lots of them, search for marriage watch.
Not an uncommon thing to do since pocketwatches are very cheap compared to wristwatches from this time!

Yes, some of those later 39 jewel automatics are quite interesting. A recent Benrus model that intrigued me is a watch called the "Jungle Master" from the 60s. Plus, Benrus made many mil-spec, field watches for Vietnam that have become very collectable in recent years.

Ok, this is not our traditional eBay value listing- but this thing is breathtaking! Please, someone buy this and keep it from the smelt. Get it serviced and wear it with a long gold chain (for our female members), buy it as a gift for a lady in your life, or just keep it in a glass watch display stand and just look at it-somebody buy this!!

Beautiful watch. If I bought it for my gf she would think I was buying it for myself!
I assume add 20% VAT to the price as it's in the US?
