My goal is to simply find one on the sidewalk 👍

Stem too long? As in someone attempted to change the stem but didn't size it correctly?

That's true, if it winds in that position, it could be a simple as that.

I'm betting on a stripped screw-in crown

Although looking again at all the pics- I'm not seeing a threaded tube

That would be the worst-case scenario. 🙁 And with the language barrier, it might be hard to distinguish between "can't push in" and "won't stay pushed in", and "won't screw in".

Still, for the current price, I would buy it as a parts watch for my Typhoon, and the other Typhoons I hope to buy in the future. Although I already have one parts watch for that movement. 😁

Lol!!! So are we to assume you want us to forget we ever saw this watch?

The dial seems to be a scotchlite orange one? Seems to nice a dial to be a parts watch?

No, I would much rather see someone wear it. It would be wasted as a parts watch. And since it has a nice case and dial, I assume the price will go higher.

Exactly.

Follow the swinging dog with your eyes, back and forth, back and forth. Your eyelids are getting heavy, and all you hear is the sound of my voice. When you wake up, you will know that a typhoon is a tropical storm, nothing more. You will have no interest in typhoons.

Wyler, Bulova and Zodiac watches suck- nobody wants them....they are all ugly....not worth collecting....

Is it working?😗

So who want to be the Shockmaster maven??

SS Elgin Shockmaster, needs a crystal (crazed) and crown (signed Elgin crowns are on eBay all the time) is incorrect but dial looks to be nice under there with that fabulous red second hand. Although caked in crud- it has a lovely stepped case that looks pretty sharp. It's been sitting for a while judging by the style of the strap. Seller says 35mm which I think is a little optimistic but the case is similar to my Miami (probably the same case actually) which is 34mm so may be sizable for the period.

Technos Skylight- love these!! Poor man's C-cased Connie meets pie pan - but actually a little more fun looking. The crown is generic but it looks like the rest is correct including the beveled crystal and mesh bracelet which is a plus.

King Seiko Quartz. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I have a couple of these HSS (hardened stainless steel) case pieces and they’re very special in the flesh. Textured dial is nice and clean and the original strap and buckle which must be worth a hundred quid. Don’t think the seller will drop below €250 - I have offered but really don’t need another.
Although it’s kind of market value the seller (dealer?) has done the leg work sourcing and importing great examples from Japan so I think the price is fair for a high quality quartz that I personally believe are under the radar at present.

Yup- they are cool. It looks like there should have been a medallion of some kind in the inset, but I have only found one with some kind of cartouche- they always seem to be blank in the middle like that.
There are a few others on eBay right now- including a couple with black dials which are just awesome.
