Hi everyone, newbie here. Just purchased this watch from ebay (i know i know big mistake going for the buy before asking here but i came across the forum later) and im here to answer the infamous question: huge bargain or fake?
The seller tells me its a Deville 196.0308 dating around the mid 80's with a 1436 movement, all genuine parts. Im attaching the pictures he sent me, he is a watch owner and collector, has a vast collection and seems legit all around. I'll leave you guys the last word.

Thanks for your feedback

How much did you pay? Most mid-80's quartz watches are just above redials and ladies watches on the collectibility scale.

I don't think it's fake but a movement shot and a photo of the inside of the case back would help.

Firstly thanks for your quick replies, the watch is coming in tomorrow. Im a total newb collector so i dont have any tools to open the caseback, i might just take it to a horologist in my homeown to have him open it up and give it a look. I dont think its a fake or a "replica" it just seems to be in great shape, just looking for more info and a potential confirmation about it from you, more knowledged, guys!

Here is the Omega Vintage Database listing for Ref. 196.0308:

Watch doesn't look the same at all and has a date feature.

My gut says that your watch is a genuine Omega quartz, but I don't think you have the correct case reference.

Thank you so much Gator! Only way to find out the ref number is to open the caseback and check, right?
If so i think i'll just take it to the shop and have them open it and give me the correct ref n°, i will update you guys asap.

Thanks, so glad i didnt end up with a fake

I'll say it's genuine. Most likely a 196.0316 from the 1980s, similar to the Omega "Symbol" series, but with a plain dial and date at 6 and the lack of the De Ville stamp on the caseback indicates that it isn't a water resistant case.

Just Google Omega De Ville 196.0316 for images similar to yours.

Thank you so much Jim, exactly the type of info i was looking for! Cant wait to start researching a bit more and learn about it now that you've given me the correct ref.

So relieved i didnt end up being "burned" by an impulse purchase!
