Hello everyone! I have a question for you guys to see if you know anything about this watch I came across with. It is a Speedmaster from 1972 looks like, 861 movement as you know. The special thing about this watch is that the caseback does not have the seahorse like others from around the same year or “the first watch worn on the moon” Instead this one says OMEGA WORLD CONTEST 1972 and a name in the middle that’s says Leslie Neilon or Neilan. Let me know if you guys know something, I will really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
well, Google is stumped. Could this just be a caseback that's had the seamonster removed and a custom inscription added? isn't that why they were acid etched to begin with?
I remember seeing a few Omega Chronostop Geneve's come up on eBay with a case back engraving for an Omega Golf Tournament... could this have been the grand prize? Edit: @smitty190373 has one! https://omegaforums.net/threads/chronostop-back-from-swisstec.37850/
I'm willing to bet Omega is not the only one that could stamp and fill... but in any event, it's kinda cool , and unique.
Maybe a different Omega? https://www.omegatravel.com/blog/index.php/2017/09/omega-celebrates-45-years/
So I found Leslie Neilon on Twitter and he confirmed that he owned this watch many years ago. I'm sending him a link to this thread. Figured we can at least find out how it was engraved this way. https://twitter.com/rcs914/status/1002297922724155392
OK= I am Leslie Neilon and I was the owner of the Omega in question. I do not Twitter very often and I do not know how I got on to this Forum - it was purely by chance that I was just fiddling around on the Internet and saw that somebody had sent me a message. If 'Cheko' could send me an email - where I operate - at '[email protected]' I will solve the puzzle for you. It's an interesting story for you 'Omega buffs'. Thank you, Les.
