Railmaster vs Explorer?

I think the Rolex Oyster 116000 with Arabic dial gets completely over looked - such a simple and amazing watch. It suits the lack of the Mercedes hour hand too. 36mm... what’s not to like..especially the value! I believe it uses a Sub movement also.

I’d definitely pick that (unless your wanting a stainless sports for value retention).
The current 36mm Oyster Perpetual has the 3130 calibre which is the same one used in the current Submariner (no-date) and the 114270 Explorer.

Explorer all the way. The Railmaster is a great watch, but I think its delicate by comparison.

I think the new Railmaster offers excellent value over the Explorer. The latter may hold its value and has the sliding/ratchet clasp etc but the Railmaster is a little different and I love its all brushed finish (including the dial). Not a big fan of the Mercedes hour hand on the Rolex either.

Someone should stick up for this guy!
Well, I’ll stick up for the Mercedes hands, maybe not the stick hands....quickly approaching my 50’s and starting to need reading glasses, legibility of my timepiece is pretty important. The Mercedes hand set is very visible. With its ample lume it is easy to read from any angle. My favorite is still my Broad arrow set on my LE RM, but the high polish frames disappear at certain angles.

What about the Rolex Oyster Perpetual line? This looks sweet

Anyone here actually tried this? If so, how much were the mercedes hands and installation? I'm sorely tempted. Much cheaper and, if I'm remembering correctly, the original explorer was based on the OP, so it's in the same spirit.

If you want to be a bit more unique, and not a lemming, get the Railmaster. Better yet, find a mint 2nd series Railmaster 3-hander.

Yes I had the OP 36 and got my watchmen to source the genuine Mercedes hands from the Submariner 116610. Sweet combo!

This lemming already has a 2nd series Railmaster 3 hander, and in 36mm. 😉 Looking for an addition with a good bracelet.

You mean cost of the hands and installation? think paid like $200 but was about 3 years ago and understand the prices on parts have gone up

Anyone know if changing the hands will void the warranty? I asked a question here some months back about reluming a Trilogy Railmaster to get rid of the faux patina and the answer came back 'yes', even something as minor as a relume will void the warranty.

Yes, it will void your warranty. The only exception might be if you have a relationship with an Omega watchmaker that will switch the original hand back if it has to go to Bienne for any reason

This modification cost me a little over $300 last month, in San Francisco. Including purchase of hand-set and installation.

Get it done sooner than later if you're contemplating this! Never know if/when Rolex will enforce even more restrictions on independent watchmakers, that can this procedure more difficult or expensive in the future.

Edit: it cost $300, not the 200 I originally posted.
