Railmaster vs Explorer?

If I remember correctly, Omega sold the rights to use the name Flightmaster to Seiko.
I don't know about that Sir. They may be then more suited for the final ST3 watch that may be announced this year.

I remember musing with my OB rep about cool it would be if the Ranchero would get reissued. He said it’s extremely unlikely to ever happen.
I think it would be unlikely as well especially if branded as a “Ranchero” aka Ranch Hand. However I think it would be a commercial success if the marketing was improved and name was changed. Maybe we will see an iteration of it

Explorer vote for me. Then again, I may be biased as I am lucky enough to have a black and polar Exp II 42mm. Not exactly the Exp reference in question here I realize, but still...

went with the 39 railmaster to avoid the explorer 1, ended up buying the explorer 1 in 14270 anyway. shame the 36 rm is so hard to find.

Hi everyone,

I am hoping to resurrect a previous debate, which I have a hard time settling! I currently own an Omega Railmaster 2503.52 (the previous re-edition) and have owned it for about 8 months. It truly is a great 'vintage' piece with many unique design attributes. However the rugged and sleek design of the newest Rolex explorer (214270) are tempting me to trade it in.

I love the refined design and relative rarity of the Railmaster, however the Explorer offers a newer design, with a very robust case and bracelet.

Thoughts? Any guidance is much appreciated! See pics below.

Cheers,
Viddy
Rail master for me everyday !

If its between a new explorer and a trilogy Railmaster, I would go for the railmaster, its such a good looking watch, and even holds up against the explorer 1016.

Between your current Railmaster and a new Explorer, I think its not much of a difference.

Current railmaster if modern is the only choice. If possible an early 14270 is better if considering older pcs

An excellent point. I have not been on OF for a while, and it is incredibly refreshing!
Did you end up going with the rail master or explorer?

I would recommend that you consider some of the Seamaster chronograph. Some of them have a lot of Railmaster styling, like this one:

If there was a modern 36 or 37mm Explorer, then this would really be a hard choice for me. The 39mm 214270 Mark 2 I had for a year was ALMOST perfect, but it was just too big and bold for my taste and I don’t regret selling it.
I can’t justify the cost of a 14270/114270 for that outdated bracelet clasp, glossy black dial, non-lumed number markers and inferior (as compared to the Omega 8806) movement.

I'm getting the railmaster 2503.52 today, I personally prefer the rail more. Regardless, you will make a good decision 😀

I just a 36mm date just with fluted bezel here in Melbourne, passed on it cause it’s a silver face and I’m more into the blue one .. but the size was PERFECT

Well it looks like I am not alone, glad I found this thread. It seems like its been waiting her for many of us.
Ok so ive tried on the 36mm railmaster 2504 and loved it but have not been able to try the 36mm explorer. I found the 36mm raily to wear large due to its large dial that comes all the way out.
Question: For those who have tried both, does the explorer 36mm also wear a bit large? Thanks

I think the Rolex Oyster 116000 with Arabic dial gets completely over looked - such a simple and amazing watch. It suits the lack of the Mercedes hour hand too. 36mm... what’s not to like..especially the value! I believe it uses a Sub movement also.

I’d definitely pick that (unless your wanting a stainless sports for value retention).

My biggest gripe with Rolex are the stick hands. The "Mercedes" is no better. Just cannot stand stick hands.
