I have been gifted a very lovely vintage omega from my grandfather who paid £20 for it about 10 years ago from a local jewellers! I believe it was issued to RAF airmen during WW2 then re-cased in 1956. I think it is the CK 2292 model with the 30T2sc movement. It has A.M 6B/159 3244/56 on the case and 9862276 on the movement.

I sent it into omega for a service and a new strap and it looks great! However I am just a little concerned that it doesn’t have Swiss made either side of the number 6 on the dial. Everything else looks in order (it still has the fixed lugs and un modified blued hands). But all the other CK 2292 watches I have seen online have Swiss made on them.

Does anyone know what this means? Could it be the dial has been replaced at some point? If so why would it not have Swiss made on it? If anyone has any other information about the watch I would love to hear it? Thank you

I'm not a military watch expert, but given the condition of the case and movement, and the font used (much later than the ~1945-50 period during which the movement was produced), it is almost certain that the dial is a later replacement. Not unusual for military watches.

As for "Swiss Made", the absence of it is never proof of anything, and in this case largely irrelevant, I would say.

It means that the dial was redone at some point. It is probably the original piece of metal with a newer paint job.

Sometimes this was done within the Ministry of Defense (American spelling), but this one doesn’t look like it was done military standards.

    Hope this helps,

Has the crown been replaced? It looks different in the second picture. The newer one doesn't seem to match quite well.

    Definite replacement, and much later.

Yes. And it doesn't even look like SS.

The watch appears to be the same, judging by the lugs. That's what I had just been asking myself.

Great watch with an MOD redial, great heir loom, lucky you. If you ask over on MWR you will find a correct crown for it.

Good spot! Yes omega replaced the crown when I sent it in for the service. I still have the original in the bag of bits they sent back.

I still have the original crown from when omega serviced it. How would I swap them back?

I don't think the crown in pic 2 is an original crown either tbh.

Here are 2 rough ones with original dials, plus a redialed Ebel and a Longines.

The OP watch isn't a ref 2292 any longer, it has been rehoused in a (Dennison) '56 screw back case by the MOD.

Hi w154, I think Antoine's crown is for the CK2292 case, the 6b/159 and the HS8, I bought one for my HS8 in the alloy case but the OP's watch is in the later stainless steel screw back case made by Dennison (most likely) for the MOD to recase the CK2292 watches in 1956.
    Here is another

That Ebel looks like a stainless steel cased one with the cal 101 in it. Rare thing, and very nice. Congrats. Please excuse the thread driffffft.

this one from the omega archive is not correct. it shows the original 40`s alloy case and a reprinted dial with the 1956 font , used for the black re dialed 1956 watches. correct crown. there is a lot of confusion with these. 1940`s must have swiss made on the dial. because they came that way from switzerland. if that is missing, redialed. ALL were white/creme`ish dialed. the alloy case ( steel was needed for the war...) perished early, but movement was brilliant. therefore the british MoD decided to give them a second life and re-cased them in 1956 with S.Steel cases . now it gets tricky. S,Steel cases were made. watches picked for the movements and sorted that way. but some had water damaged white dials, but good blued hands. so, in 1956 most Mil. Watches had black dials. to blend in, the damaged white dials were re-dialed black in the UK with that mickey mouse omega sign.....black dial and blued steel hands are no good, so: the hands on the new black dialed examples were smothered in Radium and behind each numeral was a radium dot. problem solved cheap. price wise : the original white dial , blued hands original version in the 1956 steel case is the most expensive. if you buy the original with the alloy middle case, be careful with the small alloy rim in the middle case, that holds the snap back in place. often deteriorated and therefore the snap back does not click in properly. and many of these were decommissioned in snapping of some lugs..... ask for a detailed picture of all lugs and if they have the same lenghts. and often the fixed steel lugs in the alloy middle are worn and will break the lug off as well. apart fom that, brilliant watch to own. kind regards. achim SAM_5464.JPG longines 1942 RAF.jpg
