Hello from Scotland! I am new to the forum and relatively new to vintage Omega (vintage Longines is my focus). I recently purchased this watch and wanted to know more about it. Hopefully my pictures are good enough :)

    A few questions:
    1. Is the watch completely original?
    2. Why is there no "Swiss" at 6 o'clock? Shouldn't there be a "Swiss Made"?
    3. Based on movement serial numbers, this watch was made between 1943-1944. Is that correct?
    4. What was this watch used for?
    5. Would a Bonklip (also known as Bamboo/Ladder style) strap be period correct?

    Thanks!

I'm interested to see what the experts have to say about this. I'm curious how the caseback is in such great condition (including the engraving) while the rest of the case looks like it has seen a lot more use.

The dial may be good, but there is no chance that the case back is original – none.

I also found that to be rather odd. Additionally the engraving was done rather poorly (see "8")

I've seen other, proper Omega ref. 2292, RAF, date 43-44 correct, 30T2sc, with similarly sloppy engravings (and I had a JLC 6b with sloppy engravings that was legit). The pheon and font look correct.

The dial is a later MOD dial often found in '56 recase version.

Is there any reason why it would have the '56 dial and not the steel recase?

I have mod redial like yours but with HS markings. I'll dig out some photos for comparison tomorrow

There's no way of knowing when the dial came to this watch. Not uncommon to see '40's 6b/159s with MOD dial.

Hi there,I'm not as knowledgeable as @LarryG on these but I did study those quite a bit for the purchase of mine and the dial is definitely the pattern of the 1956 MOD redials.
This is not the first time I see one of those 1956 dials on one of the old 1940s case. One example I nearly bought on Ebay about 2 years ago and the other one is in the Omega bible "A journey through time", with a questionable description as a 1940s RAF watch considering it's a 1956 redial.
Why it would not have been recased in one of the steel cases, I suspect no one will know but my hunch would be that it's simply because the original case was in good condition. It would be logical for government refurbishment programs to focus on watches that really needed an upgrade.
The engraving does look somewhat botched but the technique definitely looks identical to that used on those 6Bs and I'm not surprised or shocked to hear it could be genuine.
