Had one do that a couple of weeks ago...didn't have my glasses on either, and I managed to close my eye just in time...

First time that's happened in years, but once in a while they get away from you...

Museum collections professional here. Reach out to the Science Museum in London. They have established robust collections hazard review protocol in advance of their move to the new storage facility. Radiological hazard is one of the easy ones to mitigate.

As a slight aside on the BBC antiques roadshow last night the host dived into a WW2 Lange Flieger watch without too much concern.
Off topic there was also a Speedmaster on the show so Omega got a nice mention.
