Are these prices solely for the watch head without any consideration for a bracelet?

    Watch head.

    And use your head too!

You need to be brutal in your Assesment, and add or subtract according to what parts are good or bad.

Whoa, just looked that up. Very cool resource, always been pretty clueless on valuing the older ones. Thanks

I've always wanted to ask the author that same question too. I didn't know he's a member of this forum. Thank you for that site very helpful for amatuer collectors like me!

I have updated the page to reflect the Head Only pricing.

And don't forget I am very much an amateur too, and I am very open to any criticisms for improvement.

I realize I know only a little, and I base all my thoughts on observations. The problem is that I am observing watches that I cannot know for sure are original, so I have to go on weight of evidence, which is not always true.

Really the best speedmaster source is Moonwatch only, which came out just after I published the site. They did such a good job, I doubt I would have made the site if I had seen it first!

I recommend to any one to get that book - after all spending 5-10% of the value of a speedmaster on that sort of information seems cheap to me!

@Spacefruit - do you have a sense for what the price increases have been over the last few years. I hear stories that prices have increased substantially over these last few years, but really nothing concrete to support these stories. It certainly seems like prices have been steadily increasing in my opinion, but this is just my general observation when periodically browsing.

Prices for 69-78 seem steady for last three years, perhaps 5-10% up for better examples. Still the floor is at around 1600 for a head needing work, and 2000-2500 for better ones. This hasn't changed much.

Cal 321's have increased steadily, in my opinion. Largest increase is in 2998's though now they are levelling off, but I think it is temporary just while people get used to the hike. Three or four years ago these sold for $4000-5000. Now they are around 8000-12000, more for good condition and all correct.

105.003's have shot up in last six months. What was $4000 is now 6000+. For some reason they lagged behind but now that's changed.

This is all just my opinion and others may have a better idea.

    Hi

I have a feeling that may start to change sooner than we think....as the 321 prices continue to spiral !

    Best - Neil

The Speedmaster101 site combined with Moonwatch Only is really the best way to value a potential purchase. In Moonwatch Only, you get a very in depth analysis but every picture is perfect or near perfect. Speedmaster 101 shows great pieces as well but also give very helpful information regarding potential, and avoidable, problems.

The speedmaster101 site has been very vital for me in making sure that the parts are period correct.

I think all the cal. 321 references have seen an approximate 100% uptick in price over the past 3-4 years.

    I would cautiously agree.

However the quality is wildy variable in these references so great care must be exercised when approaching a "bargain" in these references.

As the least valuable 321's they have been the last to have mine spent on maintainance

How about the first of the 861 caliber watches, the 145.022-68 transitionals,145.022-69 premoon and the 145.022-69 straight writing (2 versons) first post moon watches. I would guess that these have moved up well in the last 3 to 4 years but at lesser rate than the 321's.

    Hi

I very much enjoy your web page.
It was a great help when I got my 69Speedy.
I've asked this question elsewhere on this forum, I was assured by the previous owner the bracelet was original. I've noticed the bracelet is a 1098 with575 links, which doesn't seem correct for my model. This bracelet seems identical to the 1116/575 which should be with this watch. Are these bracelets the same, but used on different models hence the different number?

    Thank you

    Con

You underestimate the value of your site with your humility, which only adds to my respect. This is a great resource for those who cannot shell out $300+ for a book, and further, once you buy the book, it cannot be updated, either with info, prices, or pictures - something that you do often. Thus, I see your site as a very valuable companion to the book. Bravo!

    +1

I own the book. It is fantastic. But the authors did not put market values in it, as they knew this information would have been outdated, already at its release. This is were "Speedmaster101" has its biggest strength. Additionally the infos are much better accessible on the go, as I usually leave "Moonwatch Only" at home. Those who own it, will know why. ;)
