I have a friend who is looking at this watch

https://www.chrono24.com/omega/spee...elet-and-stainless-steel-bezel--id8966030.htm

I thought these in particular were discontinued before 2010 and this ad states the watch is from 2010.
I’m I incorrect?
I just want to make sure he’s getting what he really wants.
I found an article that confirms what I thought...

https://watchbase.com/blog/2015/02/21/omega-speedmaster-3750-3752-3753/

But that’s only one article so I figured I’d check with the experts.
Thanks in advance!

It may be the year the watch was first sold, not the date it was manufactured.

Perhaps. But I always thought that was the year of production...

Year of sale will always be on the card and is a fact, year of production is always an unofficial estimate. If I have the opportunity to choose between a fact and an estimate, I go with the fact

So Chrono24s “year” is year of sale not year of production?

Whatever year has been written on the card will be the year it is sold as buy the seller on modern watches such as this one. I have a seamaster that was discontinued in 2007 yet the card says 2008 as this was the time of sale. Hope this helps

Understood.
I guess I just wanted to make sure that the watch was a “legit” Hesalite Sandwich and not a modern speedy with a display back.
The article I linked mentioned the movements were different so that would be an easy way to tell but the pics on the ad are not good enough.
At least for my inexperienced eyes...
And I always just assumed that the year listed on Chrono24 ads were the assumed year of manufacture. Not a date of sale.

You do right checking. Double check and triple check. I would do the same. It's not like your spending £50 it's a lot of money. I hope your friend finds what he's looking for.

My understanding is that these were made up until around 2003. If the date on the cards is 2010 there is a discrepancy there which can be explained a few ways. One of which is that a previous owner wrote the date in themselves.

I have no idea what the cards say, but it does come with papers.
The serial number seems to fall in line with being a legit hesalite sandwich so I don't think there is anything suspicious.
I just didn't realize that the "date" on the Chrono24 website was a date of sale. That is what initially threw up a flag for me.
But it seems from the answers here that it is in fact a date of sale, instead an estimated production date like I thought.

Chrono24 doesn't have strict rules which are consistently followed; the "year" could be anything the seller wants to put in there (and is not always reliable, some dealers just guess). If they have papers, the year of sale will be on there, not the year of manufacture, so it wouldn't be surprising if they listed it.

You can reach out to them to ask why they call it a 2010. Regardless, there's nothing really fishy here: it's not uncommon for watches to be sold for the first time years after manufacture, and the watch looks legit for the model you want, so I wouldn't let the 2010 worry me.

Yeah that's what I figured. Must of been a "NOS" of sorts at the time.
I noticed it was from Crown and Caliber and I have heard about them enough that I don't think there is anything to worry about if he decides to purchase it.
