    Hi,

Does anybody have advice on font inconsistencies. Looking at these 2 examples with the word ‘Automatic’. Did Omega flirt with changes from capitals?

    Both horrible redials.

First one is trying to look like this from a later 7xx series watch, second one is just plain wrong.

::facepalm2:: Dude, they're some really poorly done dials. :(

Yes, I do. Don't buy one until you (a) ask the people here or (b) know yourself on which references the exceptions exist. ;)

    Cheers!
Thought they both looked wrong.... both advertised as original dials. Although I didn’t know there was legitimate all lower case examples..... it’s a bloody minefield!

Here's the problem - sellers believe they have an "original dial" if the slab of metal is the one that came on the watch. Collectors, however, want the original paint and ink too, otherwise it's not original. It's all semantics.

Just adjust your attitude to believe that all sellers are filthy liars, and you'll be 99% of the way there.

Yes, 100% feedback from novices who have 0% knowledge. You have to remember that we, the collectors & scrutinizers, are (a) OCD nut cases and (b) only a small fraction of the watch buying public. If we were the majority, there wouldn't be so many redials, because sellers would never sell them. The VAST majority of eBay vintage watch buyers don't know any better and want "OOOOOO, SHINY!" so that's what the sellers give them.

..... then, once in a while, an "OOOOOO, SHINY!" buyer comes here and we have to burst their balloon.

Oh well, the more the seller waffles on about the watch, the more concerned I get, especially when the waffling is on eBay.

    Long ebay spiels = concern

Similar to when a customer keeps insisting "It's not about the money" - the more they say it, the more I know it absolutely IS about the money. :p

After reporting the second horror, it has now been removed as the watch is clearly not all original as stated in the listing. Please re-post here if it shows up again.

Just looked at it again and realized its missing the tension ring on the crystal. ::facepalm2::

Ah, do you mean you can see the edge of the movement body around the dial?

You can see the movement retainer ring and the case tube which would all be covered by the tension ring on the inside edge of the crystal.

Incredibly sloppy work especially at the asking price.
