I was at an AD recently, and they had a brand new Seamaster Bond. I was under the impression that it had been discontinued for a long time, but they said that it's brand new + comes with Omega warranty.

Does this mean this watch has been sitting at that AD for many years just not being sold? Is it common for stores to carry new watches that have been discontinued for a long time? Would it have a higher chance of having problems compared to buying a newer model?

Maybe these are no brainer questions, but I just don't know that much about watches + figured I should ask here. Thanks!

    Here's the picture of it:

Well it will come with a full 3 year warranty presumably if they are selling it as a new watch but yes it is indeed at least 5 years old since that model was discontinued when the ceramic bezel version came in around 2012. Perhaps it has sat in the window or stock room. I would want a pretty hefty discount to buy it.

They were saying $3400 including tax, which felt pretty high to me. MSRP seemed to be $3800. What would be a good price for it?

Well what would you give for a mint second hand one that may need a service in 3 years, because that is what in effect this is. Personally no more than maybe £1800 inc VAT or ~$2K USD exc sales tax. It isn't worth more when a soon to be discontinued but brand new ceramic version can be got for only a few hundred more.

That's definitely too high for that watch, even new from an AD. I purchased the current ceramic model last year for $300 less than that from an AD. If this is a current AD, why don't they have the current version? Something smells fishy to me.

In which case it is an even worse deal. The 36mm settles on the second have market several hundred below the 41mm. Think $300-400 less. Either ask for a $1000 discount or better still move on and look elsewhere.

Ebay is full of the pre-owned SMP 36mm, which means you would have to accept quite some cash hit if want to sell it one day.
No wonder watch is not sold since few years, personally I think $3400 is a crazy high price.
