So... The crown of a old SMDV was very hard to turn so I did some reading on different fora and I saw that some people are using sillicone grease. So I took a toothpick, some grease on it and lubricated the crown. Now the crown is winding like a charm. But is this a good or bad idea?

It’s standard practice...

I'm curious as to what exactly is being lubricated here.

Well. All I did was pull out the crown and threw with a toothpick some sillicone grease on the stem and prayed to God everything would turn out fine. With other words, I had no idea. But it worked!

The interface between the O-ring in the crown and the case tube.
