Question for the SMP Summer blue people.

I'm looking at getting a SMP in the next few months, and I have it narrowed down to a blue SMP. However, I'm torn between the blue and summer blue. I love the summer blue, but on some of the videos I watched, it seems bright light may make it difficult to see the time clearly. I know, I know some people are thinking " who uses these things to read the time?" lol. So my question for the people that own the SMP summer blue, do you find yourself rotating and tilting your wrist to try to tell the time due to light glare?

I had the 300 summer blue, it was gorgeous, however, the raised emblem and writing in the back irritated my wrist significantly, so I returned it…however, the color is gorgeous, and I had no trouble reading it.

Now that is very interesting. I didn't think that would have been an issue. Wow. That is good to know

Disclaimer: Discount my experience the most since it comes from an AD visit. I found the SMP Summer Blue tough to read in really sunny conditions. Blue on blue on blue and lots of shine.

Thanks Rebar. This is why I put this question up, because I don't think it is just me that is thinking this. I love the look of that dial. However, I think they should have used some contrast markers and a little splash of red would have been nice

Both are beautiful, but I can tell you that I have not had any issues reading the time with my Summer Blue in bright sunlight.

Perhaps Erik can chime in with his experience as an owner of a Summer Blue

The legibility issues you sometimes see in images don't often crop up with either the SMP or heritage imo (although I've only handled the SMP on a handful of occasions as opposed to worn it). These dials CAN catch and reflect light in a way that makes them hard to read, but you have to willfully do it, and you can do the same thing with reflections off of a regular black speedy if you really set your mind to it.

The blue indices are highly legible, the hands are reflective and bright, and the lume is honestly out of this world- it's bright and crisp and pretty.

Legibility should not be a first consideration with this one- I think whether or not you want a traditional colorway or something truly mouth-watering to look at should be the prime consideration. You said that you wish there was a splash of red- there's nothing wrong with preferring the traditional blue dial SMP.

FWIW, My summer blue gets significantly more wrist time than my speedy (and don't get me wrong, I do love my speedy!).

Last thing: in every instance I have seen someone talk about legibility issues, it has been a concerned voiced without any actual experience outside of a boutique. I will say that before I picked mine up I had a similar thought, but I have had no legibility issues in any lighting condition.

Edit to add: I actually find this steel case back to be very comfortable. It shaves about 0.1 mm off of the heritage height, I assume it does something similar with the SMP.

Tagging @pdxleaf for thoughts on his PO.

Same here, my Summer Blue gets much more wrist time than my Hesalite Speedy. It's just so damn beautiful.

In fact, my only complaint about this watch is that there are rare times the fumé added material causes a fire of sparkles to scatter from the dial, and it absolutely is not something that I can photograph. Maybe it's just my cell phone camera, but it really doesn't seem to like little fiery pinpoints of colored light like you see from a well-cut diamond.

I do love the color of your watch, but even in the picture you sent I have trouble seeing the name and logo. Almost totally washed out. However, the color, brightness and the way that dial just pops is amazing. I'm torn.

It may be the point, the name and logo shouldnt "clutter" the dial, but rather be discrete, The hands and indices are legible enough.

I do understand that you have doubts, it is a pricey watch, and you clearly want to make the right purchase. Maybe you should postpone your decision, get a cheap quality watch (ventepølse) and hang around here for a bit to learn and find your sealegs in the watch world. Your taste and understanding of watches are going to change after seeing a gazillion watches and interacting with the fine folks on OF.

I am sorry if this seems condecending, for all I know you might be a veteran watch lover.

Most of the summer blue owners I have talked to say that they really find the case back comfortable, the person in here that commented they didn't like it was the first person I've seen to say that.

I was in a similar position as you, OP and ended up getting the blue Tudor Pelagos FXD. Price was a factor for me, along with other things. However, if I was deadset on getting a SMP, I would get the Summer Blue over the regular blue. But with a rumored smaller SMP coming out soon, I would wait and see.

I’ve owned the original black version and currently own the summer blue. Whilst both have super shiny ceramic dials (part of the appeal) I’ve not had any issues when it came to reading the time. Not had any issues with the case backs either.

My only problem is staring at them for longer than it takes to read the time!

Posted this here before but any excuse for a pic…

Interesting, please do expand on this.

Probably the one Daniel Craig was wearing during the Olympics.

My PO is very legible. The time pops out at a quick glance. It might be the shape of the hands or the slightly different blue. If I do tilt it, it's to admire the changing dial as opposed to reading the time.

Note that I owned an Apollo 8 DSOTM briefly. That was a hard watch to read the time. The PO Summer blue is easier to read than a vintage speedy IMO.

I have no negative experience with the caseback on the wrist. I find the PO very comfortable, possibly due to the smaller case size. It lays well on my 7.25 inch wrist. It is a tall watch, but I am getting used to seeing that.

Btw. I took it to Japan. This was the first time I needed a highly accurate watch. Those trains leave exactly on the minute and you better be on it or it's gone.
