I understand that the Aubry era started in the early 80s with transition to a different styled case with crown at 4 and with an aluminum insert featuring a triangular rather than the earlier circular lume pip. Here we have something that seems to borrow from the Synchron era and from the Aubry era. Is this an original example that happens to be transitional piece or do we have a franken?
Further research seems to indicate this was an early transitional piece that utilized a cushion shaped case that was thicker than the previous Synchron iteration but utilized the old stock of Synchron case backs. The Synchron logo on the outside case back was apparently polished out and Aubry cross stamped instead. The inside of case back still retains the Synchron namesake. This version utilized an early two tone aluminum bezel with narrow triangle which evolved to a single tone bezel with wider triangular pip. With time the shape of the case changed with crown at 4 o'clock as did the bezel design. I believe the following examples represent the progression in design during the Aubry era in chronological order. Photo 2 depicts a quartz version which was likely an early model based on its case design. Photos sourced from the internet with last example borrowed from @Dan S listing.
