Question about Omega Constellation Pie Pan

Hi all,

I have found this locally and the seller does not seem to have any watch competence or watch tools, so I do not get any go answers from him. The watch has seemingly not been well treated, but behind all that gunk it seems nice. The seller wants 1500 USD. Do you think it is worth it? It will need a service and a real cleanup.

To me the dial looks legit and the case is not polished. I guess the crown is a replacement.
Any good suggestions? Should I go for i?

I'd say it's a bit on the high end of asking prices. The dial looks nice as far as I can see, but the lugs, while not polished, are a bit beat up, and aside from the pie pan, the lugs are what you're paying a premium for. I'm pretty sure there have been a few decent dogleg Constellations sell in the private sales section of this forum recently for less than this. There might even be one still for sale now.

Edit: for example, https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-constellation-dogleg-case-pie-pan-dial-serviced-warranty-1500€.150303/
That one went quickly, but gives you an idea of what you can get for the money. That one was serviced, too.

Thanks,@Olhenry56.
I also consider 1500 USD as a bit high, but I have not seen a non-date for a long time locally.

@noelekal - according to the seller it is only «regular» gunk 😁

Looks like there is something loose and rolling around on the dial as one picture shows nothing then the 2nd dial shot shows debris at the 7:00 marker.

Like others have said 1500 is probably too much. Any pictures of the movement and inside of case back?

In a local deal where the person can't open the watch and doesn't know much about watches, you should probably try to get a better price to give yourself some room if the watch ends up having issues. Who knows what is inside. Since the seller isn't able to sell online and can't even take a decent photo, he probably doesn't have great options for selling, so he should be willing to take a lower amount in cash. I'd offer half the asking price, you might be in for a rude surprise once you get a close look. You are not buying a great watch from a knowledgable collector who is going to stand behind the sale.

Definitely. In person the OP could at least check the thing to make sure it winds, sets and runs, then offer the guy $600 to $800 cash which I still feel is all the money for that watch.

Thanks for helping me out here - this forum so great!
@janice&fred - the seller says its just some dirt on the crystal, but I am not sure if I believe him.
@alexsofluffy and @Dan S - I agree with you. I will try to go low and see where it ends.

Do you think this is a 167.005 or could it be something else?

Yes, it looks like a 167.005 but I'm going to be a bit of a nay-sayer here @masek

Whilst the dial looks quite good, the wrist-cheese is worrying and could hide corrosion.

The case has some issue for me:
the bottom left lug is badly chewed on the outside
the top left and right lug are badly scratched on their top surfaces

Mostly all, it seems, from clumsy strap changing

Unless this was very inexpensive I'd pass personally.

Great observations. On the bright side, apparently the lugs are unpolished. 😁

One red flag......seller seems to know just enough to ask high end of market.

Evaluate in hand and observe your surroundings.

It's the wise decision based surface condition, the unknown within, and that wildly excessive price.

While I agree with what was said above - beat up lower lug and too high of an asking price for all the unknowns - do note that there's a significant price difference between the no-date doglegs 14900/167.005 and the much, much more common date versions 14902/168.005.

I know @MtV - that is why I got a bit carried away. It is quite seldom I see non-dates for sale in Norway these days.
