Thinking of buying following omega quartz , my first quartz.

https://www.omegawatches.com/watches/seamaster/aqua-terra-150m/quartz-385-mm/23110396006001/

While talking to the person from omega boutique, the guy mentioned, that I have to get this watch serviced every 4 years which costs $450. I asked what do they service on quartz movement? He answered they thing whole movement as the contacts with the battery gets dull over the period and may reduce battery life. For example first year battery may last for 3 years. After first replacement it would last 2 years and keep reducing if watch is not serviced.

I understand servicing mechanical/automatic movements but not sure if a quartz movement need any servicing other than changing the battery, if used with care.

Let me know what you think of what the guy at Omega was telling me?

He missed the part about the copper in the wires and contacts hardening with age and slowing down the current in the circuit which make for higher battery drain as well.

🙄

Even mechanical watches go for five or more years between service so he is talking out of his arse and trying to drum up business for the service department. Did he offer surface and dial protection as well? Sounds like he was a car salesman before he graduated to watches.

Just refer to the instruction book you get with the watch and follow that.

Wow. If I was told crap like that I would take my money elsewhere. I am surprised it was from a boutique.

As an aside, have you considered getting the older version of this watch, the 231.10.39.61.06.00?

Applied markers / logo vs printed on the newer one, and better movement (time zone changing). Much nicer watch - IMO, the newer version is a downgrade. And you'd save a ton of money (could go towards a service IF it was needed..). Just a thought.
