Question about a gold Constellation 168.045

Hello all,

Thanks in advance for your help. I am in the market for an all gold Constellation 168.045 and came across one locally. Problem is, it has a badly redone dial. I wonder, is this dial -- it's gold -- available for purchase from any suppliers? If not, does Omega still have these? I'd get the watch service/restored by Omega corporate if it meant I could source a correct dial from them. Let me know and thanks!

Daniel

Ah, here's the dial!

It is missing the "Swiss" signature and the gold symbol down at 6 o clock...

For my solid 18k conny I asked at Omega Biel for a original replacement OM dial and they have them in stock back from the 1960s at roundabout 1kCHF within a complete service at HQ.

Thanks for this info -- I filled out a form on the Omega website to inquire about a full service and whether it could include a better dial. I haven't heard back and it's been a week. Do you have an email address or know of another way to contact them in Biel? Thanks so much!

Thanks for this. I wrote them asking if they have dials for the watch in question, and they said they couldn't discuss specifics until they had the watch in hand. Is this the experience you had? I am a little reluctant to buy this watch without confirmation that Omega can swap in for me the correct dial. Any advice is appreciated!

Just don't go there. It looks terrible now and unless you pay 4 figures it always will. I would question that even if Omega themselves did the restoration whether it would look perfect. It is not a massively desirable model and never will be even when looking as new. At present, I wouldn't give you anything above melt value for it (which will be considerable as I bet it weighs over 80g ). I know I sound harsh but you will thank me in the long run. If you really do like this, find one with a dial that hasn't been butchered.

Have you talked with an Omega Boutique? They can handle the logistics of getting a quote for service and the customs paperwork if required.

My guess is that a service with the new dial (if it exists) will run north of $2,000. If you can get the watch for around melt value, which I’ll estimate to be ~$5,000, it might be worth it.

Otherwise, this would need to be a labor of love, since there would be little hope of seeing your cost return, other than gold value rising dramatically.

Thanks y'all for the replies - I see your points, of course. I will set this one aside and continue to daydream about this reference -- which I do like very much. The styling may not be en vogue now, but it speaks to me!

Me too! That's why I have a two-tone and the TV dial steel one. As you're new here, I'll leave this for you.

In that case ignore my negativity since in reality that is all that matters 👍

Another option if you like the watch is a decent redial. Many outfits could get it very close to original looking. Just saying. Depends what you want in the piece. It's not really a model where the value is related to collectability.

On a related note, does anyone know the reference of this watch?
