purchase advice from Omega Enthusiast

I've purchased from Omega Enthusiast before and had a positive experience -- good communication, watch was accurately described, and prompt shipping from Canada. His prices were expensive three years ago. and they've definitely escalated in the meantime, much more than the market as a whole.

Then again, if Omega Enthusiast can sell watches using IG and get multiples of what they would sell for on OF, then it sounds like he's figured out how to take advantage of a market inefficiency. Bravo for that if he has customers willing to pay those asking prices. Obviously his buyers aren't those willing to haunt the forum sales listings looking for sub-US$1000 30mm movement watches.

I think a more interesting question is whether Omega Enthusiast (and guys like him) will start paying higher prices for watches he buys to clean up, service, and sell given his increasing profit margins from sales on IG and other platforms. Will that buying behaviour start to drive up prices for 30mm movement and similar vintage Omegas? Perhaps -- though Omega made A LOT of those watches, so there is abundant supply.

Agreed, I say fair play to him. I wouldn't buy a watch from him due to his prices, but he does have nice stock, he does have nice internet presence, he does really make the effort with his vids on YouTube and he does generally seem to care about what he does, says and sells.

So if I was a newbie from that neck of the woods looking for a nice vintage Omega then I think he'd be way up on the top of my list of where to find one.

He is targeting a specific audience... The person who wants a vintage watch, for whatever reason (it is trendy now, they see more and more on IG, they reached a milestone in life etc) and don't mind (over)paying for one that comes from a reputable seller, guaranteed (as per his site) original (no fake), fully serviced (good to go for a few years), and without needing to do months of research and reading (I understand it is the whole fun of the game) for just one watch itself.

I assume most of his buyers won't be collecting many other vintage watches afterwards.

So, yeah... He sells at a high premium, and every person will have different perception of what premium means.

Now, of course one can find better value for a watch by looking at fora and learning from the different discussions etc... But that takes time, knowledge building, and even so, we all know, despite our best efforts, we sometimes have misadventures as it is a complex topic. So, one could argue that time and knowledge and peace of mind is what the buyer is actually paying, as much probably, as the base price of the watch.

Omega Enthusiast is a great guy build his well deserved reputation due to his IG, YouTube and selling watches serviced by his own. Yes, his prices are higher then the market ones, but he is always refreshing his stock which means that the watch sales are growing. Moreover, he always responds to DMs in IG if you contact him about any Omega watch. If I had that amount of cash he asks for some models I would definetely jump on them.

I was lucky enough to get one of his watches through a previous customer who bought it from him.

Nice quality at a reasonable price 😎

The fella definitely made a loss on that though...😒

Maybe he has proven with his business model and 100k followers on IG that Omega continues to be a force in the vintage watch collector’s market, and he’s not even really selling high-value references (which is pretty cool).

His prices may be high but he’s a true enthusiast and sells an authentic professionally serviced watch which sets him apart from a lot of dealers.
