·Help, please - I am getting a siren call from something that I wouldn’t normally want to consider. I need strong OF hands to hold me back. So... what’s wrong?
- It’s on Chrono, so whatever else it’s probably too expensive.
- It’s gold plated case and bracelet.
- It’s a c.1952 proto-Seamaster, but without that designation on the dial.
- OK, that does correspond with the pic on the OVDB for the reference 2635, but the word “Automatic” seems to have slipped from north of centre to south.
- “Automatic” is hard to read because it is either a) faded (OK), or b) painted over(??)
- As so often, it’s impossible to be sure whether hands and crown are exactly the same shade as the case, but FWIW I think crown is original. Maybe, minute hand too long, seconds hand off-colour?
- The OVDB only mentions a strap for this ref., and I have no idea whether the bracelet is “correct”. Great colour match though if not, IMO.
- Some damage round minute markers, but it’s fairly consistent, at least between 8:00 and 3:00 - so maybe helps authenticate the dial??
And what’s any good?
- Black waffle dial, possibly original(?)
- Period correct serial and caliber
- Cal 354, possible chronometer version (seller didn’t seem to know)
- Rose gold coloration.
And in sum, it looks just beautiful, surely? Here’s the pic - seller and Chrono acknowledged. Loads more online.
Views, please?
Thanks!
