This weekend I was offered a 1979 Speedmaster by a reputable jeweller. It was described as all original. On the face of it, it did look very original and was in very good condition. It was offered to me for £1100. Assuming it is all original, is that a good price?

    Hi,
A very open question and subjective without any photographic views, but I think it sounds good. What was the model Ref?

www.speedmaster101.com is a good place to start for pricing comparisons.

If you add an avatar here you'll likely get more help. ;)

Sounds like a great price, even leaves some room for repairs. If the watch looks good to you, I don't see why you shouldn't take the chance :)

    Now... Those pics?

My money is that it is a reduced?
I don't even know if they made them then.

Reduced starts in 1996 I think?

There was a dealer selling a 1998 reduced on eBay last week as a "1978 Professional"...

Well all I can think is that no one will sell an 861 Speedmaster for £1100 unless they have no internet connection.

And, if it's an 861, why is someone with an internet connection even bothering to post the question??
The last one that I bought for that price (actually £1000) was about 3 years ago, but it had both pushers missing. It lasted only minutes on TZ-UK. For the record, it also was a 'Straight Text' Moonwatch, on a full-length 1039/516 bracelet.

Someone sold a 321 105.012 for less than that not too long ago and it sat on ebay for more than 24hrs :)

AS everyone has said pictures and a bit more detail regarding the reference is needed.

My Speedmaster reduced was bought in Germany in 1989. I have no idea when this hybrid auto/chronograph was introduced.

My Mistake! The 175.0032 went into production in 1988!

Avatar fixed! Don't know much about speedmaster historical references. I will go back and have another look and take a few photos. Looked very nice but I'm no expert. Thanks for comments so far

A month or so ago I purchased at 1979 Speedy in box in very nice original condition. I paid considerably more than $1100 eur from a reputable collector here on OF.

So yes your price is a very good one.

Okay, went back to have anotrher look at the Speedy this morning and I don't think it is as described at all. Inside the case back is reference 1750032, suggesting a reduced I think, but with a 3220 movement. Here are some photos. Again, I am a complete novice in terms of the history of Speedmasters.
