    Hello,
I've begun the journey down the rabbit hole in search of a birth year (86) speedmaster (professional man on the moon - only writing this in hopes that I get peed on by a squirrel). Could someone give me a general estimate of mid 80s pieces tend to go for currently? I've done some googling and most price lists don't extend into the 80s.

I've looked at sales on this forum and they've sold for between $2,000-2500 for decent examples, but that was in 2015/2016. There's a 86 speedy on chrono24 now for $6000..and I wonder if prices have spiked, is that an inflated price, or is that what a mid 80s speedmaster will go for now? Any advice or comments appreciated.

    Thanks!

The name Moonwatch, rather than Man on the Moon is more normally preferred, by me for one. A mid 80s model in good nick would fetch $3-3.5k these days so your expectation is too low. Chrono24 always has silly prices.

That's most likely head only. Throw on a 1450 bracelet and you are easily sitting round 5k.

Mine is from 1985 and is in pretty good condition. Unpolished (as I see it), no major scratches or dings, dial in good condition etc.

I bought it 3 years ago for my 30th birthday for $2400, if I remember correctly.

Today I would probably value it at $5000 because of the condition and good bracelet, a very recent full movement service (approx $700) and it comes with extract.

agree with padders. $3,500 should get you there.

That would be great if it's true. I know many would say that, given that the price is the same, that there's much more value out of a brand new speedy.. But personally, the tritium dials are just beautiful.
