Price evaluation for considered purchase

Hi Omega forum

I am new to the world of watches, but eager to learn and get started on my own collection. 😀

I am currently considering purchasing an Omega watch that is for sale in my country (Denmark), and I am wondering if anyone can give me their opinion on the price, if it is fair? A good find or if there is room for negotiations?

The description from the seller is:

Vintage Omega Automatic Seamaster in stainless steel with Omega automatic movement cal. 562.
This is the so-called "pre De Ville" model with ref. no. 14770. On the back box there are classic and legendary Seamaster seahorses.
The dial is white colored in good condition with rare texture effect, so-called "linen dial", silver colored raised indices, and hands. Original Omega crown and new original Omega glass are fitted.

Diameter is approx. 34mm, measured without crown. The work's serial number is 19.393.XXX, which dates the watch to 1962. The watch was serviced in March 2022 and it works fine, keeps the time, and the date change works.
A rarely offered watch

Asking price is 1155,- $

I hope I can get some feedback on this, thanks in advance. 😀

Does the seller have a receipt for the service? That's worth between $150 and probably $300 depending on where you live.

The dial is in very good condition, as is the case. It has a proper Omega crystal. I'm no Seamaster expert so I can't speak as to whether or not that is the correct crown. Someone knowledgeable about Seamasters will come along with a value for you soon.

The price is much more than I would pay. However, the language in that listing suggests to me that the seller is a professional dealer.

Thank you for your replies.
Not sure if there is a receipt, but I will ask for it. Good point.

About the dial, from what I understand from the text, it seems to be replaced along with the glass, but it is formulated a little cryptic.

I found the add on an online marketplace for used stuff, but professional sellers are also there. So he could be a professional, and that might be why the price is a bit higher than what you would expect from a private seller.
But he does not have a professional profile on the website, and writes he is a private collector in his profile text.
To be honest, I dont know for sure.

He is definitely layering on the sauce when talking about the rarity. The dial is uncommon for sure but not to the degree he is making it sound in his description IMO.

With that being said the watch looks to be in great shape. I'd love to see more pictures of the case to get an idea of what the lugs look like. The dial is clean and free from any marks.

These seem to go around for ~$600 on here. If we go on the high estimate of @Dan S estimate for the service that would put it around $900 so hes making around $200 more. I definitely would want a receipt or proof of service and inquire about any warranty guaranteeing the health of the movement.

Great perspective on the rarity, could not find any on eBay or other places like it, so kinda took his word for it.

I can try and ask for more pictures.

With the price estimates so far, I think he might have left some room for negotiation on the price. Nice to know there should be an option for it.

The watch is nice, the price not so much. Dial variant is definitely less common than „plain“ white sunburst dials, but also not exactly rare. I agree with @TheGreekPhysique s evaluation of about 600$ or a bit more depending on the cost of the service (and, even more so, the quality).

Here’s a similar one. Not quite as nice, ended at ~450$ in a no-reserve auction quite recently.

The consensus seems to be that we appreciate the dial and the very good condition of the watch. I can’t speak for the market in Denmark, but the asking price is a few more hundred than I’d expect here (Canada). However, I would expect to pay somewhat more than average for this specific watch.

Also, it should be noted that the price can be expected to be a bit higher when buying from a reputable dealer, that would typically also offer warranty. (If that is the case?).
If the watch was serviced, fully original and comes with dealer-warranty, the price is not crazy though you could be cheaper if you're patient and buy from another collector directly.

Lovely watch. I’ll agree with the others that the price is high. But… this checks a lot of boxes for a pre-Deville. Clean SS case, clean textured dial, non-luminous (big plus to me at least), new genuine Omega crystal, hands are clean, and serviced to boot. I dunno… you can certainly wait to find a similar watch at a few hundred less, but it might be awhile

Thank you all for kind and helpful replies. Sorry it has been a while since I checked back in here, but life happened.
The add was taken off a few days ago and the seller told me it was sold. Unfortunately before I got started on bidding.

Still, I learned a lot about what to look for and consider when looking for vintage watches.
Thanks again

These seamaster devilles are $800 after service looking at the market aka eBay completed listings. You pay more for the condition. That was a very nice example tbh. That seller is a dealer/private collector. Other dealers would’ve asked for more. Good eye. I know he’s on IG.
