Up for sale is this handsome and uncommon 1940s-1950s Mido Multifort “Extra-Flat” manual winder with wonderful original gloss black dial in classically sized 34.5mm all-steel FB/Taubert et Fils case. This cool Multifort “Extra-Flat” also features an all-stainless steel screwed case manufactured by the famed case makers, FB/Taubert et Fils, which also made cases during this era for Patek Phillipe, Vacheron and Movado. This lovely midcentury Mido is powered by their high quality caliber 1200A with three adjustments. But the main attraction is the glossy black sub-seconds dial with “copper gilt” print and original radium radially positioned Arabic numerals showing lovely patina. Overall, this great little Mido is in Very Good unpolished vintage condition with a black dial that really pops on the wrist and a wearable size that a lot of vintage Midos don’t possess (it’s the same diameter as a Rolex Date, for comparison). A really nice bit of genuine vintage style & quality for not a lot of money in today’s market.

The asking price for this great Mido Multifort “Extra-Flat” is now further CHOPPED to just $675 USD [SOLD] including fully insured shipping within the USA. Unfortunately, shipping costs have risen to the extent where I now have to charge an additional $80 for an International deal on a watch like this, sorry. Bank Wire always preferred but regular Paypal is fine on this transaction (no FF). Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & CASEBACK: The two-piece, all-steel screwback case measures 34.5mm wide not including crown x 41mm long and only 10mm thick to the top of the crystal, living up to its Extra-Flat moniker. The FB/Taubert et Fils-manufactured case features downward, sweeping lugs that taper to 16mm, adding to the impression of a larger watch, as well as a characteristic recessed “mushroom” crown and substantial screw back. It shows no polish that I can detect, as evidenced by the facets on the formed bezel, the sharp vertical brushing of the sides and the undistorted lug holes. The watch has clearly been worn in its long life and has acquired some minor nicks and dings through the years — still Very Good overall vintage condition. The polygon-style water resistant screw-in case back shows some scrapes and scratches — likewise Very Good external cosmetic condition. All the litany of period exterior nomenclature is super crisp and present and the inner caseback is corrosion-free and also has all the correct Mido hallmarks of the era. Additionally, the number stamped between the "6" lugs matches the last four digits inside the caseback.

DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful factory printed black gloss/lacquer galvanic dial with copper-toned “gilt” printing with only some patchiness to the original gloss finish and one or two other minor imperfections visible under a high-powered loupe. Clearly military-inspired, this post-WWII Mido has full radium Arabic numerals laid out in very cool radial fashion that show a warm uniform patina. Very Good+ condition overall on this dial with just the minor surface imperfections and a bit of lume loss/deterioration to some of the numerals. The engine-turned sub-seconds register is also very nicely arranged and proportioned and features the same sort of copper printing for its small minute track and numerals. Syringe-style hands show perhaps a bit more of their age, with some loss of lume to the minute hand and a bit of corrosion to the metal itself, so more like Good condition, albeit completely untouched and original. As you can see from the wrist shot and other photos, this fairly unique dial really pops — just a really nice, highly legible and stylish layout!

CROWN: Original recessed, broad "mushroom" knurled crown is Very Good with only some light marks. These sorts of crowns are characteristic of FB cases and make winding and time-setting very easy. It does both of those jobs exactly as designed.

CRYSTAL: Low-dome acrylic crystal appears older and is Excellent+ after a bit of Polywatch, with only some minor accumulated scratches.

MOVEMENT: Under the hood beats a very attractive 15-jewel Mido caliber 1200A, which according to Rannft is based on the Felsa 390, featuring three adjustments, Superchoc shock protection, gold lever and a high level of finishing. I do not know this watch's service history but it keeps good time with a strong power reserve. Guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipping, though a future service may be warranted.

STRAP: This cool Multifort comes on a new generic black leather band with croc pattern and unsigned steel buckle. Interestingly, this watch takes straps with 16mm ends, which cleverly makes it "wear bigger."

As a matter of policy, I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.

This great Vintage Mido Multifort “Extra-Flat” is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking & to OF for the space,
T.
