Hello OF!

Next week I'll be heading to Prague and the northern area of the Czech Republic for just under three weeks. I've never been to the area and I'm very much looking forward to my travels. My main focus while I'm there is training and onboarding for my new position, I was presented with a dream opportunity to join one of my favorite design companies, but I wanted to see if our fellow OF members had any recommendations for must sees or anything of note that you all would recommend.

Watch destinations are welcome but I'm not really in the market at the moment, I know famous last words and I'll probably need a GMT in the future to keep up with the multiple time zones as there is a good amount of travel involved in the role but that's for a different thread. That said if there are any must see watch attractions please drop them below. Most importantly though are any historical / cultural landmarks as they are very welcome since my new company's history and story is steeped in the Czech Republic and Bohemia.

So to any of our Czech based OF members or those who have spent time in the area, do you have any recommendations?

I was in Prague on vacation in the 90s for a couple of weeks. It's a very wonderful city to visit. If you are into beer, you can take a train from Prague to Pilsen to visit the Pilsner Urquell brewery. It's a cool tour and the train ride is 90 mins one way. Drops you off a few blocks from the brewery.

There is so much to do you really can't go wrong. Just do a little research before you get there for things you might like.

This should get you started - https://www.fodors.com/world/europe/czech-republic/prague

Enjoy and post some pics here!

I ran the Prague marathon in may and spent a week in the city.

In the old town there is a local watch making company with work shop. I think they are called PRIM if I am not mistaken. Otherwise, there are lots of things to do in Prague. I always start my holiday with a free walking tour ( leave a tip at the end concept) A good way to see the city and get an overview of things you might want to explore later.

I am actually in Prague right now. Unfortunately I am only here for about 18 hours and 12 of those will be recovering from jet lag. Staying at the NH Collection Carlo IV, which is a few minutes walking from the train station. Very nice and the hotel restaurant serves a nice dinner. Will definitely will be coming back to Prague for a longer stay. Off to Budapest and F1 in seven hours.

Visited Prague with my wife about 10 years ago for 10 days — we loved it and definitely plan to go back some day. Some things we enjoyed, in no particular order.

1. walk across the Charles bridge up to the castle. Tour St. Vitus cathedral.

2. See the astronomical clock in the old town square and climb to the top for a great view. It’s an easy climb, mainly ramps and only a few stairs.

3. Take an architectural tour of all the art nouveau buildings (if you are into that kind of thing). If you can see an orchestral performance in the Municipal House, do it. It’s amazing inside.

4. We also enjoyed the Vyšehrad fortress and the attached cemetery.

Prague is lovely with plenty to see but if you want something beyond the usual tourist stuff - Take a trip up Zizkov TV tower for some Communist era brutalist interventionism - and of course the somewhat bizarre crawling babies.

All of the above are great recommendations. An off-the-beaten path location is the natural history museum.

Tucked away in the corner in the many, many glass displays is a stuffed dodo bird. I had never seen one before and have never seen one since.
