Congratulations ! But that's a venus 178, not an Universal Geneve movement, you could get for cheap a venus 178 in perfect order, why did you went to the whole process with a rusted movement ?

Good on ya mate, looking forward to see more photos of the watch once it's back from your watchmaker. Did you manage to find a replacement for the missing small hand?

Ok ok, last time I was looking for one I could buy between 500$ and 700 $, maybe it's higher now, sorry it was just a question because a service on such a rusted movement probably costed the same.

Good for you because servicing my fully functional 285 did cost me around 450€ retail.

    The watchmaker charge me 190dlls,
He was the omega distributor in the 60s,70s,80s here in Mexico,he's 80years old,he have a lot of experience in this kind on movement,I ask for all Mexico, and only he told me,I have original pieces of UG,and this is the proof that the watchmaker is very good

Surprise, surprise! I admit I haven't expected that this rusty piece could be brought to life again...
If I bring such a movement to my watchmaker he would tell me that this is a write-off. But prices are much higher in Europe, I suppose.

If I confidently said several times that I could get a repair done cheaply, I don't think I would readily admit my mistake....just sayin

My UG cannot compete with the beautiful examples shown here, but it does have a history and.is precious to me. This was my dads watch, he bought it new in 1956 from Bensons to celebrate a new job. It was his only watch and he wore it for fifty years. I now wear it a lot, it runs well and keeps good time, as you can see it has a lived in look! Although not valuable in the monetary sense it will be passed on, with my other watches, to my sons. Was he able to do anything about the bent lug? I don't think we ever had a good angle in the original listing of the watch but it appeared to have a bent lug.

The history of your watch makes it as valuable as anything that you've seen here.
