Thank you for sharing the information from Longines' archive. When Longines states that "The other parts of the watch were produced locally under license ..." this does not necessarily mean that all parts, other than the movement, were produced locally. This is the standard wording that Longines uses when the case of a watch was not produced in Switzerland. Based on the sub-dial design of your watch, I would guess that the dial was produced by Stern Freres. I would also guess that the hands were made by a Swiss supplier.

The watch is a fantastic heirloom. It is amazing to imagine it being worn by its original owner for more than 50 years. Below is a stainless steel-cased caliber 25.173 that was invoiced to Maier (Longines' agent in China) on June 6, 1939. The serial number is 5'512'254. Of note is the cursive signature, which is atypical for the late 1930s.

Not my photo.

Thanks for the info. You obviously know more about Longines than I do.

My late grandfather purchased this Longines in 1941. It's ticking again after I cleaned and replaced its badly rusted mainspring. The 12.68Z is a very robust movement.
I know... looking for a nice example 😉
Me too 😉

I know - I’ve posted this before.

My late mother, who had all her marbles, would sometimes mention something she’d mentioned before.

“You’ve already told me that.” I’d say.

“I know I have,” she’d retort, “and now I’m telling you again”.

I was reminded of this when I reposted my watch 😟

Like you, I decided that the Conquest Heritage was the way to go. Nice, accurate, affordable watches at the right diameter 😀
