·Once again, I object to "beater". I have a couple that could withstand a high-risk environment, but I am not afraid to wear anything I have for most daily activities. Most of what I have is not irreperable if it accidentally gets knocked about, either. When I got T-boned by a speeder at an uncontrolled intersection, the car was done for but I don't even remember what watch I was wearing, because it survived intact.
I feel that part of the reason we collect watches is because they each serve a different purpose in our lives. Whether it’s related to a particular activity or even our wardrobe choice. When I’m rock climbing, I’m not going to wear my Rolex Explorer, because I would likely mangle it. But I would wear my G-Shock. Even more pedestrian activities like cleaning out the garage or basement don’t warrant my Planet Ocean just waiting for me to bang it something. But, my Momentum Atlas fits the role perfectly. So there is often a watch for every occasion. Maybe the term “beater” isn’t the best, but by definition it is in fact what we do to them.
