Possible Trade for birth Year Pepsi GMT - Good idea/Bad idea?

I wouldn’t sell either of yours off- those are some pretty perfect specimens and you will regret it after the honeymoon phase with your GMT wears off.

You also have the dilemma of matte dial or the service dial- which was an “upgrade” by Rolex if you ever sent it back to them for any kind of service- they just changed the matte dial to the newer gloss one with the white gold indices wether it needed it or not- and you had no clue until it came back to you. Luckily my ‘83 never went back to Rolex. The matte dial will cost you though.

The GMT’s are in a bubble. Anytime I post a WRUW pic of mine on any forum, I get PM’s asking to sell....it’s nuts. If you’re patient, the market will level back out and prices come down...probably during the upcoming recession (not being sarcastic), so have your gold bars ready to trade.
That GMT is GORGEOUS

Thanks! Tough to say but maybe $6,500 - $7,000 depending on condition and extras. They definitely keep going up.

New idea: Why not sell both and go for a gilt? Here is a recent acquisition. (More details coming soon elsewhere™)

(Agree with @JwRosenthal though. Market is quite, hm, "overcooked" at the moment, and gilts range massively in price depending on many factors)

Well so THAT was my general thought. And maybe some out there more knowledgeable than me can help out here. Isn’t there a matte dial no gold surround 16750? Do you have to go 4 digit to get that? I would prefer matte no question. Didn’t know if that was possible in 84. Anyone???

Matte dial was ‘84 IF it had never been sent back to Rolex for a service- then it got the replacement dial. The 16750 was a bastard for the longest time- not the legendary 1675, and not the new one...until people started realizing they were the best of both worlds...and that wasn’t until the last decade or so.
Overcooked is the best way I have heard it described. It’s a great watch...but I can think of many great watches in the $12-20k bracket.

There are always many many GMTs floating around from dealers and collectors almost constantly...the demand is just insane right now. If the demand ever abates for any reason, prices will fall and you will get an opportunity to add to the collection. I am not a rolex guy by any means (just a tourist perusing the "Latest" section on the forum) and my mouth honestly dropped open when I saw that stunning explorer with corn colored patina. 😲 Please hang on to that pair!!

I may be wrong, but I believe that Rolex produced 16750s with both matte and gold-surround dials in 1984, which was a transitional year.

Matte dials and glossy dials intersect 84-85. Same with the 16800s and 16660's. Early gloss dials in 84 and late matte dials in 85.

Only if it's a pristine matte dial 16750 and that's a stretch. Those 2 will age well and appreciate over the years.

Tough, and I’ve been there before. The gmt is killer because you can add multiple inserts and a jubilee + oyster, which gives you multiple options. But the polar and sub combo, especially in the conditions you have, are a combo I wouldn’t trade or sell for one gmt. You can swap bezels, but you won’t have a white dial anymore

I am a big fan of vintage GMT's especially the 1675 gilt chapter ring dial versions from the early 60's. I doubt i will be getting one soon but the matte dial 16750 are just as nice if bought well.

However both of your watches are equally as stunning.

You have probably become use to them and want to change, but from most other peoples points of view, they are both spot on and in great condition.

Agreed -and I will say - IMHO the polar looks killer on a jubilee too.
