Hi fellow inmates. I have decided I need (no want) a birth-year watch (1954). If need be I will sell one of the darlings to get the right watch - I am thinking between 5k - 10k maybe more depending. Can you throw some suggestions at me, besides "couldn't you have been born later" or "it's too old to get a good watch" [IMG] My current collection is Omega heavy (as expected) and as much as I want I can't change my birth year to be in Speedmaster territory nor will wishful thinking make a Rolex '54 sub appear [IMG] .

Anyway, no holds barred on styles and themes.

Thanks and look forward to some ideas and pics if possible.

Omega made some nice Seamasters and Constellations in this period.

Seamaster or Constellation should fall below your budget but you could also find a nice earlier Rolex Datejust/Day-Date.

1954 was a very good year. My Mom's favorite son (me) was born in April.

I'm also looking, most likely a SS Constellation. My only Omega is a 1953 Seamaster gold capped with a gold dial. It is a "conception year" watch.

Yes, I have heard of them, but didn't know that they sold by the year. Will check them out online. I am in Aust. by the way.

Yep, April 1954 was one of the best months - at least also for me :)

If you could move up price wise a few thousand dollars you could get a nice Rolex TOG, very much like an early Sub although slightly smaller (but the same size as many, if not most, watches of that vintage). Good luck with the search. 6202.JPG

Be careful on import taxes in that cases. In the UK we get stuffed with duty and VAT on anything from outside the EU. VAT is 20% so can be quite a shocker if not expecting it.

A nice 18k gold IWC caliber 89 would be cool. Same can be said for an 18k Polerouter. You could have both well within your budget.

You know what would be a total bargain but a decent choice... the Elgin Sportsman.

An original 6204 will go for significantly north of 10k IMO... an ok 6202 would be more realistic.
