Position vs spd

Hey all I just joined and I'm new to watches in general!

I got a new SMP in June (8800, from an AD, it's legit!) and I compare it to a digital app on my phone at the same time at night (not obsessively) when I take it off for bed to see how it's running and I sync the Omega to the app every week or 2.

The watch runs 3 to 4 spd fast which is great and expected unless I leave the watch face up overnight. When I do that I noticed it's off by up to 5 seconds by morning and 6 to 7 seconds over the 24 hrs. I know that spd varies depending on position but do yours also run faster when laying on their back overnight? The other mechanical watch I own is a handwind pilot with an ETA movement. That one is consistent at 4 spd fast in any position.

It’s normal for there to be some variation in timing in different positions. There is no set pattern to this, so you may also have a position that runs slightly slower as well. You can experiment by leaving the watch in different positions for 24 hours and tracking which of them run fast or slow. You can then use them to self regulate the watch by using the most appropriate position for overnight storage.

Cheers, Al
