Poor experience with a Rios1931 strap

Hi everyone,

I got this strap from Watchobsession literally 10 days ago. Upon receiving it, I had nothing to say but praise, as it was the same as it looks on the catalog.
After a week though, it started visibly deteriorating, up to the point you can see in the attached pics. I do office work, it’s never seen any water, all of the strain it has to withstand comes from my shirt cuffs.
Is this kind of normal for a leather strap? Hard to believe…
For reference, this is the way it looked new:

Any good alternative similarly styled out there, with a proven history of good quality?

Many thanks!
Antonio

Strapsmith, Genteel Handmade.

You should expect to pay more than $50 for a decent strap though - especially if it’s the only thing keeping $7k attached to your wrist.

Is there some reason that you didn’t purchase the strap directly from RIOS? I can’t speak to your experience, but I have RIOS straps on seven of my vintage watches and have not had a premature wear issue with any of them, including this one:

IDK. My Rios 22mm is still going strong years after purchase. I would def contact both WO and Rios directly. I'm pretty one or t'other will see you right.

There's a ton of great strap makers out there. I'm particular to Bulang & Sons, and I've got several steps from them including a few for my FOIS, but there must be hundreds of excellent options, large and small. Check out the many "Straps for my Speedy" threads and search away!

I second Genteel Handmade! I purchase two leather straps from them a few months ago and they look and feel very premium, definitely worth the investment when looking for an accessory for a multiple thousand dollar watch

To be honest, I really love that kind of strap, was not trying to save. After reading this review on Fratello, I was sold (https://www.fratellowatches.com/strap-check-perfect-vintage-strap-omega-speedmaster/).
Anyway, I had a look at Genteel + Bulling & Sons after you guys suggested them, and I must admit, I love them!
Thanks a lot!
