Pondering "virtual get togethers" - have we got something wrong?

I’ve watched two live and missed the other two simply because 6pm on a Sunday isn’t as convenient as 3pm with a young family. I like the format Chris, it satiates my watch thirst in lieu of the T4AP gatherings.
I haven’t caught up on the missed episodes and probably won’t because I just don’t have the time, I often feel overwhelmed with content from too many interests and knowing there’s another episode coming means I tend to look forward to the next instalment.
Keep up the good work, you definitely deserve another Kofi.

Hello Chris. I love your work and have nothing but admiration for people like you who actually get off their arse and make events like this happen. I tuned in live at the weekend and was chuffed that both UG and Heuer chronographs came up for discussion - twice! 😉

However, I must confess to finding the live experience a little sterile, despite the Q&A and live chat options. The virtual Time 4 A Pint GTG, by obvious necessity, is a discussion the viewer can't properly join, regarding watches they can't touch and the relaxed production style means that ruined consumer drones like me perhaps subsequently find their attention wandering. It is neither a GTG in any kind of traditional sense, nor a glossy collector video interview pumped out by you-know-who, perhaps meaning that your content falls between these two clearly defined stools already established in many collectors' minds.

Having said all of that, I leave exactly the same feedback when I attempt to watch IG Live watch stuff and YouTube content. It could just be that I'm an unimaginative old duffer.

Not my cuppa either option. Wouldn’t join and less likely to watch afterwards.

Enjoy the you and someone else podcasts.👍👍 That’s more my style of interaction

I've been attending to see the familiar faces and mates that I can't see otherwise nowadays or didn't see for a while. The topics to me were honestly totally secondary.

A bit of disappointment though, as the sessions are only a little interactive (chat) and mainly only broadcast. My personal interest for watching those videos in a pure broadcast mode with no interaction is close to zero.

I've enjoyed the ones I watched live as I suppose you feel part of the action. I've not got around to watching the other one as a recording seems less exciting, even though it's the same content! The run time of close to an hour maybe putting viewers off? My impression of the YouTube videos are that most are under 30 minutes if not 10. As a live event run time seems less important.

I've had minimal experience of using Zoom before. During the latest session I found bits confusing such as there is a Q&A section as well as a general chat room. Also in the chat room the attendees can select to have their writing viewable by everyone or just the panelists. This took away from the feeling of being involved in the conversation as many messages are not viewable by the whole room.

All good, and fair feedback gang.

In all honesty, I can’t wait to go back to meeting in the pub, and doing 1:1 in person interviews/chats about watches!

Until then, I guess we all keep going.

Will see what I can do to incorporate/enact the suggestions/thoughts above to make things more interactive for the live sessions - 100% get what people are saying about that being missing from the recordings and so lower interest.

Thanks for the feedback and thoughts folks - super useful for more ponderings.

@killer67 @DaveK - super weird. Did you sign up to the mailing list, or go through the eventbrite booking?
.

I signed up through the mailing list

Ah! You need to book a spot for the event too - invites will come out to the mailing list later today for this Sunday.

Personally, I really enjoy the live content, that being said I think a combination of reasons 3 & 4 result in lower than expected viewings of the recording.
There’s lots of online competition for this type of thing currently and unless I commit to a certain time once a week and especially on a Sunday it’s very unlikely I’ll listen to anything on an ad hoc basis.

I commend your good self Christopher, and the others involved with its production, I can imagine quite a ball ache to produce and with little appreciation/views post the live event I can see how that would be slightly disheartening.
I guess it boils down to whether you think it’s worth the effort vs feedback/post live views.

As I say, I really enjoy the Sunday hour of watch chat and it’s one more thing to look forward to whilst we wait for the world to end 😉

Cheers James!

I started off from the point of feeling a bit disheartened, and then moved on to "Are we just not doing it right, could it be better, are we missing something, is there a way we can make it more enjoyable for people watching and listening?".

I'll admit to having no real understanding of YouTube, or the watch content that gets made for it... so just felt like I was stumbling around in the dark a bit.

Ultimately, happy to keep doing them, if people enjoy them, and always willing to learn, refine, and improve if we can. 👍

As you know I’m no tech expert (to say the least!), however, the other similar online/YouTube chats I’ve seen don’t have the same friendly/informal chat feel... perhaps that’s because I know or have at least met most of the panel on yours but I think it more likely that the feel is more laid back and “warmer”... which is more my bag! Keep up the good work chaps I say!! 👍

I enjoyed it on YouTube... Hopefully back-in-action in London by July or August 😉

Thanks Phil!

Exchanging emails with venues at the moment, and trying to make guesses about when we might be allowed to meet/return to pubs.

The strategy the venues and I are working to is, book in some dates for every month between May - December, and hold the bookings that we can.

Hopefully things become safer and we can meet sooner rather than later. 😀

I must confess that most of my podcast sized bite consumption were done either commuting or out for a run.
Both of which have been somewhat extinguished recently.

I have joined live for 3 of the sessions.
Quirky and not polished.......which I really enjoyed 😀.

But enjoying the views of pieces I know little about, and or researching some of the guest speakers I found myself learning about background wise.

Keep it up. Am seeing the horological bones of an 'Ant & Dec' with You and Mat 👍

I think over the course of time the number of hits will increase once word is more shared/promoted.

I enjoyed the first two I attended but because of the time difference, I did not manage number 3. I guess one reason for me not watching the video is that I spend/waste enough time on the internet as it is and feel that I should be doing other things as well. I don't know why that is because shops/restaurants/ nearly everything is closed so its not like I have many options.
On another note, it does make me want to attend a live T4AP. Hopefully will make it one day.

I didn't know. I recently switched my podcast app because my phone sucks. I now use Stitcher which you are not on (nor is Jack Slack but that's another story). I had no idea you were doing Zoom calls. I need to subscribe to a mailing list i guess.

I absolutely love your show. Can't wait to binge the zoom content. That said - i do prefer passive listening vs active watching, as i can pop the headphones on & multitask & view.

Sorry @nzshadow - meant to check on this before, and got distracted.

Still up there, and working as far as I can tell?
