There have several threads lately on the 300M Seamaster- a great watch that should give the submariner a run for their money. It has a beautiful movement but I wonder if any of you would prefer a case back with the sea monster on it. Cheers
Though it adds thickness, I like a display back. Paying for that master chronometer movement, might as well be able to see it...
If it means the watch can be thinner, then I prefer the closed case back. Especially true for the PO range.
A closed case back is my normal preference, however it’s a reasonably slim watch anyway compared to my PO so I’m happy enough to have a nice view inside this one. Balance bridge looks nice and beefy, very robust.
If it were lighter and thinner than a sapphire caseback, I would be for it. However, Omega sucks at solid casebacks. See: 2018 8800 Seamaster vs 2017 2500D Seamaster. And 3572.50 vs 3570.50. Omega is not very good at utilizing solid casebacks if I'm honest.
I like the display, its an added feature which i enjoy vs. other iterations. The only change maybe, and someone with a more extensive knowledge of Omega watches will know the watch which has this that I have seen - but perhaps it would have been nice to have the display but the Sea Monster etched on it.
I love being able to see the movement from the back of the watch. It's like lifting the hood of car and and seeing the engine. I will never forget a friend having a Patek and seeing the display on the back of his watch. It was a thing of beauty and it made the watch a little more special. I feel the same way with my Seamaster.
A heavy solid case back for me. On a tool watch, even if not being used as such I prefer the extra height, weight and solidness, although I don’t mind a display back on something dressier.
