Received a Polarouter today. 20217-3
Crown is not signed.
Chapter ring with bold markers.

Looks great. Almost perfect case.

The use of the different marker rings is a real mystery to me. Not only do we see different Polarouter references with different rings but we see different rings with the same reference.

I think we can be fairly certain that that particular crown is a replacement.

That is a very nice Polarouter, but I agree, it is very unlikely an original crown.

What a good read, very useful! I've always been in the market for a PolArouter. Hope to get one anytime soon....

Thanks great post. I would love to know how the polerouter sub relates to the original design besides the same name. More info on the sub here https://omegaforums.net/threads/polerouter-sub-a-typology.3624/
Quite different design with a compressor case, same micro rotor movement though. Looks like a marketing initiative as in a line extension; lifting on a succesful name? Was Gerald Genta involved with the Sub?

I think you are spot on that the Polerouter Sub was just an extension of an already successful line of watches for marketing reasons.

As far as I'm aware, Gerald Genta had no involvement with the Polerouter Sub.

I think Genta designed the polerouter super compressor - it bears all the hallmarks of his whimsical style and pretty unique in comparison to the other brands or the era:

Sorry, I'll have to politely disagree.

Numerous manufacturers used a very similar EPSA case design with dual crowns and produced very similar looking watches, the most famous being the Longines Super Compressor pictured below.

As much as I love the first generation Polerouter Sub, I struggle to see too many echoes of the original Genta Polarouter design and the differences between it and the other Super Compressor models of the time are quite subtle in my view.

No worries - you're right about the epsa cases and all- but for me the dials of those two are very different and it's clear - at least for me- the one Genta would have designed.
