Polar Exp. II GMT Hand inconsistencies

Hello,

I have been hammering after a GMT watch for a while, and as you may have seen in my thread in 'Open Discussion' I've been gradually whittling down my options.

I think I'm pretty set on a Polar Exp. II 16570. However I have noticed something a little odd. There is a particular watch I've been looking at, with a view to purachase. I noticed the red paint doesn't go all the way to the base of the GMT arrowhead, leaving a bit of black on the hand itself. Intrigued I looked through a load of google images. It seems this detail is inconsistent. Some leave a bit of black, on some the red is all the way up to the base.

Anyone ever noticed this and is it an indication of something I don't know about? It seems maybe 3186 versions are more consistent, but that's just over a few images. Below is kind of what I'm talking about, first pic is the exact watch I'm looking at, second is a google image.

Interesting observation - I don't know the answer but mine has the 3186 movement and lacks the "bit of black" you are describing.

Hmm. Yeah a quick google search seems to suggest that older (maybe 3185) watches have it, to a greater or lesser extent, but 3186 don't!

Or it could be random!! Thought I'd look as it seemed odd on the one I was looking at, that it might be a one off to suggest service hands or something??

Alam, yours looks great by the way!

Hi,
Here are 2 vintage or classic Exp II's I owned Black 16550 & Cream 16570 as you can see both white gold & black painted hands have a shortage of Red near the arrow.
It is quite normal.

Regards,

Mark.

I think it may well be dependant on the age. Mine is a 2008 3186 movement model black dial and the red ends exactly at the start of the triangle so perhaps on the later ones they tidied it up a bit.
