PO 8500 black rubber diver strap

Folks,

I have spent hours and hours trawling through sites reading people’s stories also in the same situation.

I have a 42mm 8500 PO purchased in sept 2013.

I’m looking for the black rubber divers strap but just cannot, for love nor money, find one that fits.

I have purchased 3 aftermarket’s and all leave a gap at the base when connected.

has anyone found a solution, either genuine OEM straps or after markets that fit?
I’ve tried my omega shops but they just tell me to enter my ref number on their website and it will show me the straps available. It just shows leather, nato or the vegan strap, no black rubber!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
TIA!

Have you tried the Omega OEM strap - reference number 98000364? I believe you should be able to source one through Omega. The buckle obviously is sold separately.

Beautiful watch by the way. I have the same only 45.5mm. 😀

Have you looked at the Zealande web site? I believe they do a rubber strap in various colours for your watch.
I have recently bought one of theirs for my Omega NTTD, very pleased. The quality is as good as the Omega strap, at nearly half the price. It is comfy to wear and fits the watch perfectly.

I have just ordered the Zealande black strap. Thanks for your responses!
I prefer the strap styles like the divers model on the Seamaster and not the PO 98000364.
The Zealande looks very similar so seems a good shout.
Thanks again!

Hi @w10jmh

This is the strap you are looking for. Part number 98000144. There is a similar strap with part number 98000085, but that is for the SMP. 98000144 is for the PO. My Omega AD didn't have a clue what strap it was (very strange), but I found out for myself online. It's actually for the previous version PO (cal. 2500), but it fits the 8500 like a glove – it is, however, not as tall as the case, so it doesn't go all the way up to the bezel, as you can see in the last picture.

It doesn't go any higher on the 2500 either. It fits both of them just fine. if it was too near the bezel, it wouldn't turn. But the gap you're showing in that pic, is the same gap that it is on the 2500. Although not designed for the 8500 it looks fine, bulks it up a bit, but looks good. For the money I'd get that over the Zealande, which are quite pricey and for not a lot more would get the Omega. Anyone have one on a PO?

Thanks a lot @Modernism and @frabr
Really appreciate you taking the time to help.

Any clue where to buy the 98000144 strap from from?
Call an Omega boutique that's more helpful than the one you tried initially, and chances are if they don't have it, they'll order it in. I would imagine they can still get them. Where are you based?

I initially got mine in central London, but they actually had it in stock, but it's many years ago now. But I may purchase a newer one eventually.

I called a boutique in Leeds, UK, and they will order one for me. £230 + £50 for the buckle. Not a bad price to be honest.

I'm just going to look up what it 'was'.... when I bought it, just for depressing reasons

EDIT:
£139 inc. strap and buckle 🤔
Mad increase, but so are the watches

I am in the same situation.
Like the watch very much.
I have got bracelet, but it’s hard to get a perfect fit half link put in/put out, then I ordered the big adjustable clasp and although you have extra adjust it’s too heavy around 200gr and the clasp is massive.
Have got an original strap with deployant and still could not find an optimal position. One position is too tight in the summer, another one is too loose.

Nato strap.. I am not sure whether it will be good for Planet Ocean, because it’s already almost 16mm + nato part above as a result will be even thicker.

so, I have been looking for a nice strap as well.

Zealande and original strap from PO2500 so far the best? Maybe someone could share their experience? What could you advise to order?

I don’t want to sell the watch, I know it’s thick and it’s hard to get maximum comfort but what could you advise?
Thanks a lot!😀

Hi
I recently purchased both the Zealande and the Omega PO 98000144 strap. Rather costly to purchase both but given the value of the watch, it's not a great amount.

I much prefer the standard Omega PO strap over the Zealande. Don't get me the wrong the Zealande is a very nice strap. It is more flexible than the Omega rubber strap, also thinner and has closer gaps on the strap for the buckle. It's actually a nicer fit on my thinner wrists.
That said, the Omega strap just looks better IMO. It is a thicker strap and a little more difficult to undo, but it looks just waay nicer for what I was looking for. I hardly take my watch off, however, even for sleeping i leave it on, so it's certainly a worthwhile purchase.

Good luck in your search !

Thank you very much for reply!
May I kindly ask you to post some photos on this strap, if it’s not difficult for you?!

Last 2 so you can see how much it is raised. not a lot really but it does sit higher on the omega strap than it does with the Zealande.

Thank you very much indeed! Photos is good!
I will ask my dealer about that strap: 98000144

Overall you are very happy with comfort with original? you have said it’s a little bit firmer, but it doesn’t reflect comfort so much?

With a bracelet I couldn’t wear this watch when travel more than 6-8 hours , wrist get a pain.
however, you have said you could even sleep with .. than it sounds perfect.

Mine is now on this rubber, but it’s not as toolish as rubber in this thread. I think rubber 98000144 should be more comfortable and definitely better for summer
