Hello to all,

I don't know if I am the only one that hates some of the old plexiglass. I have some watches that the Plexiglas has very nice shape, very close to the bezel and some others that are like building a wall on top of the bezel.
don't know if there is already a thread that shows pics of all types of them but it would be good to know the Plexiglas types as per the age or watch brand. I guess many of the vintage watches that we have have replacement plexiglass not the original ones, that's why some of them they look so ugly . What are your toughs? now is late night and no time to make some pics but tomorrow I will make some examples and I would love to hear from you what are the Plexiglas that you love and hate the most and if you think that are the original ones or replacements. I know that this topic is very bast as are many watch manufactures and watch designs, but I'm sure that many of us will indicate the typical that hate the most.
thanks to all :O)

This an example of what I hate and I guess it’s a replacement. I’m showing the face of the watch so you can get an idea about the aprox year of the watch

There are hundreds of different acrylic crystal sizes, shapes, and profiles available. Your watchmaker might be able to help you choose a different profile if you don't like a certain style.
and if you think that are the original ones
Some brands - Omega and Universal Geneve are two that come to mind - embedded their logo into the acrylic crystal. Those original crystals are highly prized by collectors There are several threads on these in the forum; here are two to start:

Acrylic oxidizes with age so it's rare to have an old watch with the original acrylic crystal. I think you are ranting about replacements that are cosmetically lacking. Guessing your complaint is that yours stands too tall off the dial? When I replace the crystals on a vintage watch, I prefer to fit them so they are as close to the hands as possible (low profile) and are clear to outer edge (no distortions). This shows off the dial as much as possible. Dive watches are a different story 😀

Definitely you explained what I mean! I need a low profile plexiglass as this one is terrible and sure is not the original . I was aware about omega and UG marking the plexi with its logo, do you know if Movado was doing the same ?
Thanks

I noticed that my SONA dial has a distinct domed appearance. The domed crystal is fitted fairly low with little of a wall around it. I think this could not be fitted lower without interfering with the hands. The height of the hands would prevent some crystals from being fitted more closely than they are.

Eterna produced some plexiglass crystals with their ball bearing logo, other than them, UG and Omega I don't recall others.

I have some NOS Wyler's. Nice "W" in the middle. Can also be used for Waltham 😉

Check out this one. UG Compur from 1938. I love the shape of this one. It appears unpolished and is very clear, with some random marks. Looks like the glass from my old clock.
