Please help with identification (1955 Omega automatic)

Hello! I saw this Omega at a jewelry store today, recently serviced. I was in sizing a bracelet on another watch, and it was an impulse buy. I love the dial, small seconds, and indices.

I’m having trouble finding the model number for it. The movement is stamped “490” and “500”, so I’m unsure which one it is. I don’t see a model on the inside of the case back. I would like to find a bracelet to fit this watch.

Serial starts with 14,8xx,xxx so I’m pretty sure it’s from 1955.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you all.

It's a sub seconds caliber therefore a 490.
The 500 marking may be because the "upper bridge for automatic device" (470-1031) was replaced to correct rotor wobble which can be seen by the wear circle in the caseback.

The 490/491 and some 500 series calibers shared many parts from the earlier 470/471 and interchangeability was the repair solution when a caliber specific part was unavailable.

The OXG is the US import code for Norman Morris Corp, the official US agent/distributor for Omega from 1933 to 1980, so the 1955 date fits in.

There are a few questions about the case. I would have expected a US made case (Jonnel, Star, Wadsworth etc) on an imported watch, not an unstamped Swiss case (at least caseback).

Thank you! Any idea on model number? I’ve been looking at BOR bracelets and hope to find one with proper end links.

and, because US case with no case number, we can't tell you much other that what can be observed.

The lugs are almost certainly 11/16", so most 18mm straps won't fit. Many straps labeled 17mm usually do.

I see you want a BOR bracelet. It's possible vintage #11 end links with 11/16" will fit. No way of knowing. PM me, I have some.

Just measure the distance between the lugs and as @SkunkPrince noted, it will take some searching to find a proper fit.

It’s right at 18mm.

So that also indicates to me a Swiss case with a US import movement.

Hmmmmmmm

😒

With parts from 2 different movements and no number in the caseback. The red flags are mounting up.
