Hello! I've found this watch recently. This Omega was brought to USSR in early 1980's. A man on a picture is identified as Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait from 1978 till 2003, and Crown Prince since 1978 till his death in 2006. Not sure if it's an official customized Omega watch. Any thoughts on how much of these were made? And how much this watch can cost?

Not omega customised for sure. I’ve serious doubts in the case as well. For me it’s a put together watch

A photograph on the dial ? Seriously? White gold case with shitty hands? Not worth a comment.

Not sure if hands are original. And yes, it really looks more like DIY/put together watch. Strange thing they really put Omega caliber inside though.

Assuming the case is truly gold, the value is approximately the melt value of the case.

I wonder why they didn't order a custom version from Omega directly. This was an official gift for sure

This is very, very, funny.

I'm working with his cousin quite a bit at the moment, I wonder if he would like to buy it back as a memento? 🤦

I'm pretty sure this has been nowhere near the Royal House of Sabah - they have more wealth than Croesus and would have had something beautiful made if they wished to give an official gift.

Neither do I think it is a white gold Omega case.

The Kuwaitis (and non-Kuwaiti citizens who were born and raised in Kuwait) do revere the Royal family, so it is just possible that one of the many residents produced the watch for their own use. (I suspect it used to have a different picture in the frame on the face)

We don't what circumstances were around this, the person who could tell this is long gone. May be you right and the image was replaced (for some reason). I'm pretty sure they didn't try to fake Omega, otherwise they didn't use an original Omega caliber I think. I'll check an authenticity of gold and gems with jeweller soon

The case does not have a triangular Omega stamp and the dial is quite clearly fake.

So why did they put 625 inside? Just to overfake it?

I really don't understand what point you are trying to make, I guess you just want to believe you have something special. Who knows why they used that movement, but a 625 is not a special, expensive, or high-end movement. If you're making a fake watch, you need to use something that fits.

most of the countries that sit around the Gulf have little workshops in their souks that would knock something like this up out of parts that have been acquired.

Unfortunately, there are dastardly types that would happily ‘prove’ the provenance of a ‘gold’ Omega by virtue of showing the (inexpensive to buy) movement.

( there are many many fake gold Connies around - not from the GCC - that have legit but incorrect Omega movts in them. )

I hope for you that it turns out to be a locally made gold case but I’m not sure that it will be.

A 1970s 625 which is for ladies watches btw could be acquired for about £10. I was once given a bag of them from melted cocktail watches. Don’t read anything into the fact they used that. It’s junk. And ugly junk. If it’s actually gold all good, it has some melt value, if it’s not, bin it.

A jeweler checked the watch. The diamonds are real, but the old cut is of no value. The material of the dial is presumably onyx. Case - pure white gold. Thanks everybody!
