It's a fake, so don't bother. Not all of it presumably, but a good deal - dial (stubbies, closed 9); wrong seconds hand (and probably fake minutes and seconds, for that matter); fake insert I believe; wrong crown; if that's an original case it's been polished to death... Should I go on...?
...and a way to early serial for a 166.024... Which by the way should be with date then ... Cal. 563/565... And no caseback had 166.024 only ... Allways SP2 or -67 SC after the ref.
Jose. Please take this in the spirit that it is intended. The SM300 is one of the most faked/frankened watches you will come across. If you are looking for one, you need to research it thoroughly; read up on it and then read more and more and more. It took me well over a year to find mine (probably nearer 18 months) and others have taken two years or more. Unfortunately, this means having to suffer increasing prices but it is worth it in the long run. There really is no short-cut unless you see one for sale on this forum from a recognised collector. The best advice I can give is to start here: http://thatwatchandmore.blogspot.no/2013/03/buying-vintage-omega-seamaster-300.html ..... and have fun with the hunt. You will find that you have to be prepared to jump in quickly when you find the right one for you or somebody else will.
This is the truth. I would love to buy a birth year Constellation, Speedy or SM300, but the reality is it is so very difficult and time consuming to learn about these vintage watches. Heck, for that matter also a vintage Ploprof. In any case, a respected and recognized collector would be the way to go. @Barking mad do you have a 1966 era Speedy you want to sell? (shameful I know).
Thank you very much for your words and advice. That's why I trust more every day in this group of knowledgeable and experienced comrades. Regards, JB
Jesus I just had a quick look the first time, look how crooked the letter are in "automatic" haha. The font is wrong on the bezel too. Wonder if the sell knows it's a fake?
A very good research post advised to myself some time back by our very own @flame http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...mega-Seamaster-300-including-Military-watches
one pics is not the same watch (second from the bottom) ....The one coming from LeMuse is a nice big triangle with replacement bezel.
original bezel has 5 minutes indicator also in tritium lume (replacement is painted ) when i say replacement it means service (or later)
Have you read the article, because you should - see pic 26. The bezel in the lemuse sale predates the one you've posted, and has no lume on the 5 markers. I have an all original SM300 that has the same big triangle and bezel.
AFAIK there is only one bezel variant with a straight "1" on the 10. I am not aware of replacement bezels with a straight "1". The later bezels, 1969 onward, are pic 27. I don't wish to argue over a watch that isn't mine, but FWIW the straight "1" bezels are not replacements - you've got it the other way around, the service bezels are the ones in the pic you posted (and I just bought one!) - and personally it does look to me like the bezel in the lemuse picture is the real deal, but maybe I'm wrong.
Guys, both bezels are correct and original. None of them are later service ones. In total there was 7 different bezels used on the 165.024 and 166.024's. Some of them with only little difference, like the last above. It looks like a service one, but the 5 is more closed than the service one...and of course the lume patina. Have pictures of all somewhere. Start with my RN300 which often featured the slim straight 1 bezel.
