    Good Afternoon Y'all !,

My name is Ricardo, I recently got into buying vintage watches however, I am not a professional at determining if a watch is a fake. I recently stumbled across a Vintage Omega 1954 cal 266. It looks beautiful, I am in the process of buying it but something that threw me off, was the sub-dial. It is divided into 8 sections. Something that I've never seen. Is this the style or is it simply a knock off. Please Help me ! ]

    Best,

    Ricardo

The dial has been refinished poorly. The watch is an Omega.

That movement really doesn't look healthy either, case is gold plated by the way not solid gold.

Not a knock off. Though not a good one either

Can y'all elaborate on " been refinished poorly and movement not looking healthy". If I where to purchase this item I would restore it. Do you guys recommend it to be a good investment to restore it ?

Definitely don't buy it, it'd cost many times what its worth to restore and still wouldn't be original or worth much. The movement looks filthy and corroded, its just not a good candidate to restore or even any good as a parts donor.

Thank you so much for your reply. Could you point me in the right direction on some watches, what to look for, and how to determine if the price is right?

You're likely going to have to take some time to do research on it rather than just jumping in, but what's your budget like and I can point you in the general direction of a few models that could fit?

My budget is around 600 $, and any watch that is 36 mm or up, 34 mm looks nice but a little small on my wrist

If you're willing to stretch a bit the Seamaster cal 752 sparkle and its relatives are a great option, there are some similar case sized cal 564 and 565 models too.

They're likely your best bet in terms of that size with a good movement near your price bracket but there are many references in those lines so you'll have to start from there and read up / search watches in the Seamaster and Cosmic with those movements.

Also look at the movements in the two I linked, that's what a good clean movement tends to look like, not dirty and corroded.
