Please help me identify my dad's Omega

I am seeking collective wisdom. I inherited my dad's watch. Which I think may have been a gift to him from the APTN (Aboriginal People's Television Network in Canada) although I may be wrong.

My best guess at this point is the Constellation Calendar: CD 168.0005

But there were a few that looked possible, but I ruled out for a couple of reasons. But I know nothing of watches, so no idea how exact a match is needed, or if anything has been replaced etc. The band seems to obviously be custom.

Any help is appreciated. If other pics may be useful I can do some more, although won't be opening it heh

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

It looks like it could indeed be a 168.005 - though by far the best way to tell would be to have a local watchmaker open it up and have a photo taken of the inside of the case-back.

The biggest condition problem is that the dial has been re-done in a rather haphazard manner.

Still, it will be nice to have and wear a watch that belonged to your father

(Note also that the crown has been replaced at some point - though this is much smaller of a concern than the fact that the watch has been re-dialed)

Some remarks to the redial: Different, wrong fonts, part of the lume dots are at the wrong place, the constellation star is not alinged correctly.

The crown is obviously not 'Omega', the seconds hand seem to show a lot of corrosion.

Yeah, unfortunately I am in Toronto and there are apparently no certified Omega service centers anywhere near me. I do love that I have it. I just wish I knew more about it. Who gifted it to him will be tougher to find out, but figured I would at least try and determine exactly what it is.

Ok, so since there are no certified Omega dealers here, he must have had to have work done on it by a non certified person, hence the poor job of it. Makes sense. Wish I could take it into a proper place for at least some maintenance.

He is a watchmaker himself and he resides in Canada as far as I know...

Swatch Group’s Canadian service centre is in the Toronto area. I may be mistaken but I believe this is where OB’s and AD’s in Canada send Omegas for service. There are also a great number of Omega dealers in Toronto, and independent watchmakers as well. So you have options for popping it open and perhaps getting a quote on a service.

(Few here will advise sending a vintage watch to Omega as their service (which is costly) will likely result in many of the collectible elements getting swapped out, polished, etc.)

That said, much has already been done to it. As outlined, the fonts are dodgy. The star is askew. The date wheel looks off. It’s a meaningful watch to you so take your time a do some more research. There are many examples of similar watches here on Omega Forums.

I’ll get you started with this Arabic numeral variant.

Thanks for the info. I searched for dealers on the Omega website and there were none showing in Toronto area at all. Just some in the nearest US states.

Any of these locations should be able to easily open the watch up and confirm the reference number for you; and they should also be able to talk through possible steps for servicing the watch

I live in Toronto and just sent mine for a complete service. Great guy by the name of Boots. His store is in the lower level at 55 Queen St. East.. C G Del Rosario 416.367.5012 Im sure he can help you.
