Hi all,

First post on Omega Forums!

I have just started up in the vulnerable arena/minefield/battlefield yet highly interesting and mesmerising world of vintage watch collecting. I have collected modern watches to date however very much enjoying the world of vintage. Thus far, I have bought well, having done my due diligence. After obtaining your opinions I will be getting this checked out by my local watchmaker (who is highly reputable) to conduct a final check. The seller is a good fella who appears by all measures as trustworth as they can get. But in the spirit of 'not being a fool', I am here to do my due diligence.

All I'm interested in knowing is:
  • Does this appear to be a good, original, matching example?
  • Want to ensure there's nothing seriously amiss with it (i.e. re-dial, that sort of thing).
Background-
Supposedly serviced in the UK in 2021

I would like to consult experienced veterans familiar with the Omega WWW Dirty Dozen I am looking at buying. It appears to have the MoD replacement 'syringe' tritium hands and service dial.

I'd love to be educated on the MoD hands and dial replacement/service dial - as I am aware this isn't strictly 'original' but would have been done during military service.

Asking price is 2200GBP/ 2680 USD. I want to ensure I am getting this piece for a fair price.

Welcome - you may want to consult on the Military Watch Ressource forum where many military watch collectors like to hang out.

Its been a while since I looked at these closely, but a couple of things stand out. First thing is the hands. I believe there are some variants to these, but the most common were the sword hands. I also think these would be the more desirable. The other thing is the dial - if I recall correctly the seconds sub dial should be recessed. On the watch in the picture you provided this does not seem to be the case. Have a look at the picture below (which I believe belongs to TDN-DK, so credit to him), this is what they typically look like.

I would not buy any radium-dial without a check.

Here presented by (young) Brad Pitt 😀:

Many watches were repainted with radium or added with tritium. You can check this easily under UV-light.

Here is mine, purchased 2 years ago from a reputable member and collector here. The subdial is recessed and it does have sword hands, which are reputed to be those originally issued. I believe yours is a redial, maybe a variant but certainly not the original issue.
I agree with @Syrte, check our MWR if you are interested in collecting WWW watches. The members there are very helpful and have loads of expertise!

I am not an expert on these, but the absence of a recessed sub-dial definitely needs a closer look.

Cannot thank everyone enough for your help and expertise.

I'll be passing on this for the time being.

Many thanks!

Hi on a similar note I am looking to start out on the dirty dozen journey and have come across the watch below for sale. Any thoughts as the hands seem a little off to me based on the limited research I have done so far. Any thoughts appreciated. Many thanks

The OP watch is indeed a legit MOD variant dial and hands, nothing to worry about as seller declared as such. Personally, I think £2,200 is a little rich in the present market for an MOD variant.
