We are seeking to raise funds to help our friend and fellow OF member, Aroxx (Alex) and have set up a GoFundMe page for him at the following link: https://gofund.me/931c3991. The past several years have not been kind to Alex. He lost his job, was unemployed for more than a year, and then endured a painful divorce. On July 22, 2024, Alex, who is only 37, suffered a massive stroke while at home. He lived alone at the time and 30 hours passed before he was found. That delay resulted in partial paralysis to his right side, particularly his lower arm and hand which remain immobile, and aphasia which has severely affected his speech and ability to process written language. He can’t live independently now and is being cared for by his parents in their home. Alex is presently undergoing physical, speech and occupational therapy. His progress is slow and his prognosis is uncertain. While Alex has health and short term disability insurance through his current employer, he will not be able to maintain his health insurance benefits if he cannot return to work and his short term disability benefits will end soon. He will also need monetary assistance for his medical deductibles and copays, the expenses associated with remaking his life as an independent adult - if and when he can do so - and financial support for his two boys, ages 5 and 7, who he cherishes. Alex is a very decent and kind person, a loving father, and a good friend to many. He needs our help now. Please consider giving what you can to help a fellow OF member and we sincerely thank you for any support that you can offer.

I rushed to donate and saw that 50 others had already beat me to it. Let’s do this. Thank you @gbesq for this initiative.

Tossed in a small sum six days ago, with money currently being tighter than it should be ... but it's a good cause, indeed. I hope Alex recovers fully, and that the path to recovery is as smooth as it can be, under the circumstances.

What happened to Alex puts a sobering perspective on whatever worries I may currently have. That worry may have me in its grasp completely, but in comparison, it really IS a small thing. Get well, Alex.

Thanks for your message. I just want to emphasize that we are grateful for all donations -- the willingness to donate is far more important than the amount. With more than 88,000 OF members worldwide, small donations will go a long way if there are enough of them. Again, thanks to all who have donated to help Alex so far. Your collective kindness and generosity is very much appreciiated.

Bumping this thread with a nod to @hansaboy who has kicked off a bake sale for Alex. He is selling off straps at $5 with proceeds to Alex, but as he did the right thing and put them in the parts for sale section- they aren’t visible in the regular feed, so you may have missed it.

It's going up slowly guys, so forget that new strap for the watch you never wear and dump your funds into this great effort.

Best thing is, if you do, you get a personal thankyou email from Greg that you can print and hang on the wall in your man cave!

(Note: The email may or may not be sent directly from Greg as he balances fund raising with trying to keep track of the other million things in his life so the email you may receive could be AI generated from the Go Fund Me Organiser software programme and may be an automatically generated response to your donation.)

Note: I have spelt (spelled) "programme" correctly.

The emailed thank you notes are all hand written (well, typed actually) by yours truly. No AI involved. In my view, people who are kind enough to donate to help a fellow OF member deserve a sincere thank you note. As of this morning, the balance of the GFM fund for Alex stands at roughly $6,700, so we are two thirds of the way to our goal of $10,000. I am planning to run the campaign through the end of November, so we have two months to come up with another $3,300 to help one of our own. This really shouldn't be too hard to do given that I'm still matching every dollar contributed with a 25% premium, but unfortunately JimInOz is right that contributions are coming in slowly now. Please read either the top of this thread or the GFM page for Alex and think about how you would be feeling if this happened to you at age 37 and you had two boys ages 5 and 7. It's not a happy place to be and the future holds no guarantees. So let's do our best to help Alex and reaffirm that OF is not just a bunch of watch collectors, but a real online community with members who genuinely care about each other and who are willing to help when a crisis arises. Thanks to all, -Greg

Whilst I don't know Alex personally, I do feel a small donation is the right thing to do. Many little ones make it big. This certainly contributes more to someone than yet another watch accessory or strap will mean to your (or my own) collection.

All the best to Alex, wishing him a speedy and full recovery!
