This is a thread on being nicer so even though I'm at work and on duty I will still offer free hugs to anyone close by...
how we used to dress
What scares me is this is not far off from how we used to dress in the 70s with the short, tight shorts.
It must have been my youth in the 70鈥檚 at the country club
let's not be an elitist. While my parents might not have been members of your posh country club there was a swing set at our trailer park.
A little birdy told me about this thread and I'm glad to read that the majority of the forums aren't reflected in the comments made in that other thread. I hope to get to know and befriend most of you here. I've always had a love for watches and their complications that were instilled by my grandfather/father. Despite the whirlwind of a year we've all had so far, the success in my career has blessed me with the ability to splurge as I've never been able to before and purchase some fine watches this year. I decided to join this forum shortly after the purchase of the latest Omega Speedmaster with the sapphire crystal. I truly love how well this watch wears despite being 42 mm diameter, but amazing what some lug tweaking can do, hehe. Looking forward to sharing my passion of watches with you all and learning more about Omega watches and their history. Stay safe and healthy 馃榾
P.S. I enjoy NATO straps, especially on larger/bulkier watches.
I snapped this picture 10 minutes ago so speak for yourself big boy.
Welcome and congrats on your acquisitions! I love that so many women today are choosing standard-sized pieces rather than the dainty watches of past decades. Did your father and grandfather also have Omegas, or did you discover them just by researching?
Ok, now my curiosity is up.
"How did you accomplish lug tweaking:" he asks as he envisions a Speedmaster clamped in a vise with a pair of Vise-Grip pliers hovering just above the lugs.
Welcome to you by the way. Glad you joined us.
Thank you for the warm welcome! Glad to be here.
Oh my... No, no. Not that extreme haha. Farthest I'll go with tinkering with watches is replacing the batteries of my own quartz watches, resizing the bracelets (Speedy was a PAIN to resize but worth it) and recently learned how to remove the stem/crown. I was referring to the designing/engineering Omega did to make the lugs/watch overall wear comfortably for both bigger/smaller wrists. My 6.3" wrist can handle the Speedy, 馃槈
I鈥檝e enjoyed this forum because the members, for the most part, are polite and act with a modicum of proper decorum.
Those threads were a train wreck. There are things one should learn early not to vocalize in polite company. Disparaging someone鈥檚 purchases based on price-point is way up on the list of gauche behaviors that say far more about the speaker than his or her intended target.
Assuming it鈥檚 true that a Rolex AD or boutique sets aside it鈥檚 most desirable models for customers who spend grand sums, it鈥檚 a simple and polite move to just agree that the salesperson鈥檚 dismissive attitude reflected poorly on the brand. Choosing instead to communicate an embarrassingly condescending attitude about the watch someone bought was in bad taste. While it鈥檚 true that in the world of this hobby, a $7,500 watch may be at the low end of what is possible, it鈥檚 also true that someone who purchases a new F.P. Journe or Patek Phillipe would think a gold Rolex Presidential is mere pocket change.
Something for all of us to keep in mind and hopefully learn some humility from: that disparaged $7,500 Rolex is 15.6% of the average annual income for US workers. Disparaging a watch like that for its low price displays a sordid level of snobbery and elitism.
All of us who have the disposable income to own more than one watch - Timex, Hamilton, Omega, or A. Lange & Sohne - are blessed and our deportment should reflect that.
I am a big fan of the color blue and this specific color has a nice matte range depending on the lightning. Highly recommended!
Not very clever, and also inaccurate, since I have a substantial history on the forum by which you and others can judge me.
