+1.

NATOs look equally bad on men and women.
They are the gateway drug for canvas/nylon single pass straps...which are perfectly acceptable in Mil style watches IMO...you just have to get past the street junk.

I still dislike NATO straps. 😜

Can I take this opportunity to make a comment that is adverse to your post please, I do not want to offend you in anyway shape or form but I have to say that regrettably you are wrong, NATO's are awesome.

Sorry

😀

I admire your courteous response. I not only respect your difference of opinion, I embrace it as helps me grow. Alas, I think we are still guilty of thread hijacking and thus offer our apologies.

To get back on topic, the sexist and elitist attitudes displayed by certain members on both threads was absolutely disgusting and willfully ignored attempts by others to keep the threads on topic. The participation of some specific people in the sexist grossness is not at all unsurprising unfortunately, as they've already displayed the more misogynistic parts of their online personas elsewhere on OF.

I do wish there was a bit more enforcement of topics on threads by the mod team.

You really know what I dislike?

"That's way too much to pay for a service."

How the hell do you know?

You don't. Maybe you're getting a dunk and oil for your 12 shiny rocks. Maybe you are getting a full service but no adjustments. (Hope you're happy with -20, +40 a day.)

HIgh-grade watches that are cleaned and adjusted and keep time within -4 to +6 don't necessarily cost a person thousands of dollars/euros/pounds, but you might not be getting all you think you're getthing for a hundred or two.

Say what you will about Omega service or service performed by factory-authorized service centers, they don't do cheap work and they don't do shoddy work (usually). So I really don't give a rat's butt that you pay 125 whatevers for your service. You're probably one of those guys who changes watches three times a day, and when you do that, it doesn't matter how well the watch keeps time.

I guarantee you that your watchmaker is not spending a lot of time meticulously adjusting and regulating your watch for that price. I'm perfectly happy paying $500 to $600 for service on a chronometer because a chronometer must meet certain standards every day or it's not a chronometer, it's a piece of crap with a word printed on the dial that doesn't mean anything.

In all seriousness, the PM tool is very powerful. A brief personal contact can do wonders to sort through differences.

This I have done a few times- members who I once “disagreed” with publicly I now consider friends.
And I read the thread in question...ick. I want to think the members were being cheeky (I always try to give the benefit of the doubt)...but probably not.
And agree- what one person versus another is willing to pay doesn’t matter. The privilege one may have to get back-door b-j’s from an AD is a personal relationship...we don’t need to know about it, nor do we care.

And apologies to the new female member who was made to feel demeaned, those guys don’t speak for the majority.

They're great... on dive watches. 😀
Have to agree, I have some watches for which I just haven’t found the right strap or bracelet so they make for a good place holder until the right one comes along.

A little birdy told me about this thread and I'm glad to read that the majority of the forums aren't reflected in the comments made in that other thread. I hope to get to know and befriend most of you here. I've always had a love for watches and their complications that were instilled by my grandfather/father. Despite the whirlwind of a year we've all had so far, the success in my career has blessed me with the ability to splurge as I've never been able to before and purchase some fine watches this year. I decided to join this forum shortly after the purchase of the latest Omega Speedmaster with the sapphire crystal. I truly love how well this watch wears despite being 42 mm diameter, but amazing what some lug tweaking can do, hehe. Looking forward to sharing my passion of watches with you all and learning more about Omega watches and their history. Stay safe and healthy 😀

P.S. I enjoy NATO straps, especially on larger/bulkier watches.

I "love" a G10/NATO when I put it on... and then after about a half-hour I have to take it off because it starts sliding around on my wrist. 🙁

I ordered a nice blue Eulit from Holben to go on my "new" Hamlton chronograph with the blue dial. I'm hoping I won't have the same issue.

Photo please!

Hard to see in this picture, I know. Get it in the sunlight, however....

Maybe I'll do that when the Eulit arrives....

Welcome and congrats on your acquisitions! I love that so many women today are choosing standard-sized pieces rather than the dainty watches of past decades. Did your father and grandfather also have Omegas, or did you discover them just by researching?

Covering the caseback may make sense in the original military use (reduce chance of noise from contact with something else metal etc I'm assuming) but I want to see all of my watch as have promptly dispatched the couple that have come with watches I've purchased to the bottom drawer....

Is this the group that gets to wear 29-32mm vintage men’s pieces for pennies on the dollar compared to larger pieces without feeling self-conscious 😉
