Hi John! I know the two lenses you are referring to. 馃榾 I often wonder whether the 50mm Distagon lens is favored for its looks as much as its functionality. Amazing how large and heavy it is too.

It's funny, I was supposed to get a 205FCC the other year, but instead dropped that cash on a Speedy. 馃榾

And I absolutely agree with the premise of your first post. I don't think I've ever seen anybody summarize it any better!

It is almost certainly an Omega stock photo of a 2998, used to illustrate the current model for that catalogue year - the 105.002. You can't use catalogues to show model details for a specific year/reference.

This is certainly true.

The original point was that, given the limited time that the 105.002 reference was in use, it was suprising to see that reference used in the 1963 catalogue instead of a105.003 reference - although the discussion has veered in various directions since then !

Beauty certainly is in the eye of the beholder for Speedmasters, notwithstanding a myriad of nuances people can 'proove' - good or bad. Outright fakes getting easier to discern for me as a new Speedia enthusiast. All your comment are samples of Value added IMHO.
