Planet Ocean - Question about the second hand

A friend was looking at this watch a year or two ago, I just came across the photo again. I believe it's a 2201.50 based on some searching through the forums and ebay listings to compare images.

I'm curious if anyone knows why the second hand doesn't have an orange/red tip. Is it a service part or does the color on the second hand tend to fade over time?

Did some googling and I do see pics of this reference where the tip has faded, so yea I suppose its just faded.

Probably exposed to lots of sunlight. Omega would just replace the hands during a full service. No idea on the cost though.

2201.50 is a nice watch; especially the 2500D variant for the movement update. I have looked at these a couple of times but not pulled the trigger 😕

Yes, the orange tip can fade over time and be replaced at service.

Faded hands are common on these and some other models.

I've seen faded seconds hands on the first generation of planet oceans and the original Bond Seamasters. What's interesting that it was only on the non serviced watches. The ones that got serviced had seconds hands with bright colored tips that stayed that way. So perhaps at one point Omega started using better paint that is not as prone to fading?

Yes, my 2003 2531.80 (Bond) had some fade though not as bad as some...I had a full service 2-3 years ago and it's still as bright as new with the new second hand. Not something that bothered me, in fact I would have preferred keeping the original but forgot to mention it at the time of service. At least they left my insert as-is...it's been around the planet many times with me!

Seconds hand on mine is faded but I don't think I'd change it when I send it in for service.
I like keeping original parts on the watch if they dont Need to be changed. Part of the watches "story"
